 | Heres an e-mail I received from them after inquiring why there product so closely resembles Adware spy.
Hi,
We have never heard of Adware Spy till now. We are shocked ourselves.
At the moment, we are updating our software to version 2. Our designers and programmers team are working hard to create a new look with a much stable interface.
Our software has a database of over 20000 definitions. Each definition was researched by our security research team for a period of (2) months. All the spywares/adwares that are in today's PC has been captured and entered into our database. AdwareX Eliminator identifies these and removes them safely using some powerful removal algorithms we have developed.
We are completely unique and original, we are here to fight the common problem that exists today in almost everyone's PC - adwares and spywares. That's all.
We thank you very much for bringing up this web site.
Kindest Regards,
AdwareX Eliminator Team. |

| reply to John2g I downloaded the program about 10 minutes ago just to see. It's been running since then...lol...and so far it's showing 11 files, 1 process, & 5 reg keys. I ran Ad-Aware this morning after updating it and came up with nothing.

Those are all reg keys put in by IE/SPYAD or some other anti-spyware program. |

| reply to sashwa Well it finally stopped after 260 reg keys. It was showing stuff like alg.exe, msstdfmt, aclui.dll being spyware.
What a crock! I just uninstalled it and now I guess I'll go clean my registry out.

I did warn you it was probably useless -- Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt. |

| I know you did John but I was bored...lol...Godd thing I knew that or I could have really messed my system up if I had had it fix all those so-called problems.

 | reply to John2g Hi All:
Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner.
AdwareX Eliminator and ADS Adware Remover have both released "new versions" of their products -- see
»www.spywarewarrior.com/family_re···es.htm#3
...for a comparison of the old and new versions. Underneath, though, they remain the same application -- using the same Reference.dat database file and producing the same ridiculous number of false positives.
Interestingly, the new version of ADS Adware Remover does ship with an updated Reference.dat. This new reference file produces an incredible 200 MORE false positives than the previous versions.
And if you didn't see it already, my original thread announcing the "Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware" page covered both AdwareSpy and ADS Adware Remover (only a few days later did I discover the other members of the family: AdwareX Eliminator and The Web Shield):

suziPremium join:2004-05-01 | reply to John2g I also tested AdwareX Eliminator and posted my test results on my Spyware Warrior Blog:
I did not get nearly as many false positives as Eric and sashwa but perhaps it's because I ran it on a Win ME machine that does not have a lot of applications installed on it.

 | reply to John2g Check this out...what do you guys think? This was posted on their download site
Updated Software: July 17th 2004: The complete Database structure is re-defined. We had received many e-mails that the older software detected many system files and a lot of our dear users had problems with their computers. Our team has immediately looked into this issue and fixed it.
Our latest version of the software includes a powerful and correct database with a complete list of just spywares and adwares. Our software will not remove any system files that are integral to every PC. You can be confident this is the one and only true product that removes all spyware/adware in your PC! |

firaz:
Depsite what this company might say on its web page, there are no substantive changes in this new version -- either to the program itself (which underwent an interface overhaul last week) or to the spyware reference database.
This new version (with the 7/17 ref database) produces the same ridiculous, inexcusable false positives as the previous versions (see the attached screenshots).
That this company would make the claim that it has purged its ref database of false positives when in fact they haven't casts real doubt on the efficacy of the company and its product. Indeed, I really have to wonder how much control the company behind AdwareX Eliminator actually has over the program or its ref database, since it's clear that they're licensing the code, just as ADS Adware Remover, AdwareSpy, and The Web Shield are -- see:
Anti-Spyware Family Resemblances »www.spywarewarrior.com/family_re···es.htm#3
My verdict is the same as before: stay away from this product as well as the other products in this "family" of anti-spyware products.
