The Dichotomy of Broadband

On one side there are The Press and both major political parties pushing broadband as a Utility and a National Priority. On the other side, there are the broadband providers (as well as their apologists) who tend to default to broadband being some sort of luxury when the shit don't work in the manner advertised. Caught in the middle is the consumer.

There are certainly some folks making a lot of money from being able to have things both ways.

Yea, for all the talk about BB being important economically and culturally, we're essentially rolling out BB in this country the same way were rolling out Starbucks. No acknowledgment or policy that's says it's different and important. In 50-75 years, maybe there will be a Starbucks within walking distance of everyone. It'll take longer than that for ubiquitious BB. In the meantime, countries like China will be eating us for lunch economically.
