And who is to blame for this? Mostly the companies that overcharge and short change us now. Many companies still aren't competing in a true sense. My ISP Insight is a good example of this. While DSL providers in there service areas have lowered prices and raised speeds. Insight still charges $79.95 a month ( $69.95 in some cases ) for 3000/384 service. Lets not even get into how other countries and OOL provide a heck of a lot more speed for much less. This great nation of ours is supposed to be the most technically advanced. Yet we can't get as fast a speed as communist and socialist countries. Some of which are supposed to be less technically hip than us. -- Test Your Security Benefit for Children's Oncology Group Cable Modem Diagnostics |

They can't move? |

 | reply to IGGY its called free enterprise. if they are only ones in the area, you have only one other choice, and that is to not have broadband. if they have competition, then you have a choice to leave them for another provider. if enough people exodus to a cheaper provider, they should get the hint, or go the way of the dodo. |

 | reply to Authority Unless they get terribly lucky, no. I couldn't afford cable TV back when I lived in KY 16 years ago. I moved north when as luck would have it, I didn't have to spend my entire tax refund on back owed rent. I got in on the very start of the internet boom, and now am back in KY again ... this time with a whole lot more earning potential.
Many of the folks that were here when I left are still here now, still in the same boat financially. In lots of the south, it's a 2 class system. You either own stuff and make lots of money, or work for $4.55/hr for those folks. You just wouldn't understand this, living in California. Down here it's a whole different world. -- Honor Indian Treaties |

It's the same all over. I've personally made it a priority when choosing where to live that it have broadband access. That's a "feature" or a poperty as much as a good location or a nice view. I don't understand the concept of having sympathy for people who can't get broadband; that's like expecting sympathy for people who choose a long commute or near a freeway. Everything in life is a compromise, and our lives are a result of the choices and compomises we make. |
