 | Email issues and DSLi I am having isue recieving email at my exchange server at home. I have always heard that DSLi was on many blacklists due to spamming. My company recently purchased an eSafe appliance for security and now I cannot recieve emails I send from work at home as these systems have DSLi blacklisted. Basically the email comes back to me and says eSafe blocked its attempt to get to where it was going (my home domain). This is very frustrating and worrysome as I now wonder how much email I am actually losing. I think finally it is time to switch... To their defense my service has been very reliable but as more companies move to these Proactive Content Security appliances and software I believe I will just lose more and more email. |

It would be helpful if you pasted the exact text of any error messages that you are getting to help diagnose the problem. |

 | reply to stoyles1 I researched the issue with some of the engineers at my work that control the firewall and eSafe appliances and it seems that when we send an email outbound that there may be mime encoding in the email that causes the email not to get past the dsli smtp servers? I recieve email from other sources fairly well but this latest issue has me worried. The email seems to stay queued and then time out on the eSafe application. No error message is given unfortunately and this puzzeled everyone... |
|
 | reply to ropeguru Yeah it checks outbound as well. It's eSafe. In many ways I think they have something screwed up but I have heard alot of email issues with DSLi and wanted to throw it out here... I sat down at the eSafe terminal and we tried to send an email out and it just queued and eventually died. Then I telneted out and sent an email which reached me fine... |

This has been tested on 5 or 6 different accounts. I can receive email on all accounts just fine though.

The domain name is the account domain I am sending to. |

 | Jibeho...Can I send you a test email from my work to see if it is actually the dsli servers? |

 | well now I am even more baffled... I guess my next step is to check with dns2go where I have my domain registered? I also use dns2go software as well.. maybe this is the issue. What a pain... |

 | reply to JibeHo Did you set up a MX record with DSLi? I am not sure if I need to set up a MX record with them when you have another DNS service? |
|
ropeguruPremium join:2001-01-25 Mechanicsville, VA | reply to stoyles1 If you have a MX record setup in your DNS that is all you should need. You should not have to set one up with DSLi. |

eliasPremium,VIP join:2000-07-24 Miami, FL | reply to stoyles1 My Exchange 2000 Server at work has been fine, while the DNS pointed to our DSLi IP.
I have Network Solutions hosting DNS (WorldNic), and pointing it to my IP. It's nice because I have full control of DNS, and can edit at any time.

 | The strange thing is that I get email from some places like University of Miami and hotmail and a bunch of large Credit Card companies that send me bills... but for some "crazy" reason certain email just hasnt been getting to my server and this has only started since past July 7th from what I see as I did get email from work back then... I have contacted dns2go to see if they can look into this. I never set up a MX record with them as their service actually has a client portion that runs on my server( i used to have dynamic dns and this would allow me to host my domain properly) and they never asked or indicated that I needed one... I will update.. I am also now looking into zoneedit. Seems like alot of people are using them with good experiences. Anyways thanks all for adding your comments. Much appreciated! |

Did you install Intelligent Message Filter? |

 | Alrighty then...I figured it out and I only blamed my ISP, Work and DNS provider for something I did!!! lol But I will face up to my blunder and start handing out the apologies accordingly... Anyways here was my issue, or what I believe fixed the issue as I get all my mail now it seems... I installed DHCP on my domain controller and took DHCP control away from my trusty router. I did this to start RISing comps at home on my network and just to play with DHCP, seemed pretty straightforward. Everything continued to work fine, or so it seemed, comps got their leases, site stayed up and I got most my email. However when I did a test sending an email from work that didnt get to my exchange I noticed in my smtp virtual server current sessions in exchange system manager that the session was there but no mail would cross and it would eventually time out. So i looking back at the stuff I changed I realized I had played with DHCP and in my scope options I had noticed a 069 Simple Mail Transport Protocol servers option. Well I added that option, plugged in my exchange server IP and everything started to work. Oh well... So I believe that was the issue as SMTP didnt seem to be resolving. I only have one other question... in the MMC for DHCP when you first open it up, in the right pane where it says DHCP and then beneath that Contents of DHCP should the status be Not Connected?? As soon as I dbl click on it status goes to running and scope shows active... |

 | Thanks everyone for the help. My DSLi service has always been stable and reliable... just the speeds are a little lagging lately compared to the competition... |
