well, if nothing else, I may this weekend try a repair install of XP. Dunno if it'll help, but Im out of other ideas. If that doesn't work I'll be backup a lot of data (hope I have enough cd's laying around) and trying a reformat and install.

Are you sure you did this?

This will reset the registry to default TCP/IP values.

Open a Command Prompt and type:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Reboot. Set The Doctor Tweaks.

Save, exit, reboot, retest.

you know something, I'm not *positive* that I did it in that order, I do know I've done all of those things, lemme try it again and I'll post back in a little while.

It's already at 1492 (at the router as well as at the modem) and the rwin is already set to what it should be (or so I'm told)

Something I just remembered, right before I upgraded I had downloaded and ran MS's regclean utility, possibly that wiped something out or corrupted something? Of course I stupidly didn't keep a backup registry from then

that must be pointing to something different for you than it is for me because its' not offering any suggested changes...it says everything's good.

What I am saying is to apply those tweaks in The Doctor. Then save, exit, reboot, and retest your speed.

oh ok, I figured those were already set since they showed up in the tweak test as being the current settings. Only ones I'm not sure of is max duplicate acks, I guess I don't need the dial up mtu setting, and black hole detection?
