Re: The "Official" SP2 Bug Thread

said by palbri:
Hey, I thought it was me as well: I got this message twice within the past few weeks and NEVER once had it before.

However, I did load a new logitech webcam...and I notice it is having a problem loading the audio.

Could this be it?

Don't know....I loaded no new hardware or drivers, except for the IE update that XP SP2 prompted me to install. This BSOD is driver/utility/hardware error, and no telling what caused it.....

I had the same problem with NAV2003. I did everthing that Symantec reccomended but nothing worked.
About a week later (after giving up on getting Live Update to work and doing nothing else) it suddenly started working again. If you check my previous posts in this thread you will read what happened.
I still say its weird.:)

Re: emachines m6807 laptop hibernate hangs

I have the same problem, but also detected something else of interest after spending 12 hours with Microsoft's research team. The Function buttons will cause the system to lock. I just sent back my M6807 per Emachines request. They reinstalled the original SP1 system and it all works. I was told that Emachines would NOT SUPPORT SP2!!!!! Amazing as this seems, it is their new corporate line. I bought this machine so I could upgrade to Longhorn. Now they say they will not support it for even a service pack upgrade.

Any suggestion on how to handle Emachines Corporate and MS to get them to work together. Is that an oxymoron?

Question :- ~Procedure point error logon issue with shlwapi.dll:

1.. Boot normally and attempt to log in to your desktop. At this point you should get the error message listed above.
2.. Press Control+Alt+Delete at the same time to start the Task Manager.
You may get additional error messages but Task Manager will eventually start.
3.. On the menu bar, select File and then New Task (run).
4.. Type in "control appwiz.cpl" into the new task box and hit OK. You may get additional errors that can be ignored.
5.. The Add/Remove Control Panel should now be running. You can close task manager.
6.. Near the bottom of the list, find the entry titled "Windows XP Hotfix - KB834707.
7.. Click on it and click the "Remove" button. It will take some time to complete. Once the "Finish" button is visible, click on it and reboot your system. If you get messages about additional software or hotfixes installed,

I got nowhere with emachines support. Very disappointing. I tried to deal with HP, who bought emachines, and got nowhere there too. Of course, as listed in an earlier post of mine in this msg thread, I got everything working with SP2 by turning off Data Execution Protection - and that includes all the function buttons. In the AMD forum other users got things working by installing a more recent version of firmware. But emachines won't support your machine if you do that.

See this message thread at AMD if you want to try newer firmware not supported by emachines.
