I think posters should say if they are on XP Pro or XP Home it might make a difference.
I have had little trouble with my upgrades to XP PRO other than the nero problem.
I did update my E-trust AV they have a nice tool to open the needed firewall ports. »ftp://ftp.ca.com/pub/inoculan/AVEnablePorts.exe

I am using XP Pro on a Dell 3.0gb, 1mb ram, nVidia video and using such applications as Office 2003, Sonic Record Now for buring, CorelDraw Graphics suite, and Norton AV just to name a few. I installed SP2 last night and have had no problems at all with the exception of the Norton bug with the Microsoft security center. Also been running Doom 3 and UT 2004 and both ran fine on the new update. It might have added a few seconds to the boot process but yet how often do you have to boot XP anyway?

installed on a dell 8200 system, 1.8 ghz, wont boot, i get a quick blue screen of death then just black, then it restarts itself, cant do sys restore, can boot into safe mode, cant uninstall it from add/remove. im thinking im going to have to format it tonight.. any ideas before i do though? i've tried defragging, turning off fast boot, stuff like that. its just weird cuz i can get into safe mode but i cant really do anything from there.

It has come to me that that disk defragment program is very bad.

On a brand new drive and other different drives it allways said that my drive was heavily fragmented. I'm talking 68 to 89%.

I could startup my computer and it would say it was that heavily fragmented or I couldn't open one program and it would say the same thing.

Is increased memory consumption a bug too? Then add that.

I've had nothing but bad experiences since I installed SP2 earlier today.

First off, opening My Computer now takes a long time to load. Everytime I start "My Computer," it would begin to "search for items" as seen above, and would usually last for five to six minutes.

Second, while trying to make a screenshot of the loading My Computer with Paint, MSPaint no longer functions. The process exists, but there is no window. None at all. Since Paint wasn't going to work, I also tried to use Photoshop CS. Seems to freeze at "Scanning for plug-ins...". I ended up using IfranView to create the screenshot.

I have yet to find any other problems, but I am sure that these are not the only ones.

Please excuse me if these were problems introduced prior to the release of SP2, and if this is to be the case, please guide me to the solutions.

I've read another thread where people have said it has made their system faster. I'm in your boat. It has made mine slower for some reason. I'm running 2.6ghz w/768mg ram so I wouldn't think it would be because of my system specs....

sorry for 3 posts in a row...
BUT, after installing SP2, this morning I start up my pc and while all the programs are loading, up pops something saying that there was a SEVERE problem with Webroots SpySweeper, and that I may need to reinstall it. Since I have rebooted my pc 3 times and it says the same thing.. So I guess I have to reinstall it. Has anyone else had this problem if they have webroots spysweeper???

Yea, I did too. They are suppose to have a patch there today. But I guess it isn't there yet.

And about the V5 WU Update.. they guy that posted a few posts up.. are you saying that if the updates are set to AUTOMATICLY download, then you CAN'T manually do it?
I just wonder why mine won't go to the V5 page at all. A few days ago when it was on BBR that there was a new WU Update page, I clicked on the link, and downloaded the install or whatever it was for it. and it went then to the V5 page a few times THAT DAY when i would try it. But ever since then, it has went to the V4 page. Does this really matter? Cause I heard that SP2 was goin to use the V5 page and not the V4...

Issue: Could not scan a file via alt click/scan for viruses with Symantec Antivirus 9 Corp Ed.

Solution: Install build 1400 update from Symantec.
