kasper5014 posted : my wan characteristics are hard to determine, since im planning for he unforseeable future.

To reiterate my main point, im looking for a decent introductory cisco router (will worry about switch later since this topic has mainly focused on router) that would enable me to support sub 40 users wan traffic for LAN's. All the game servers would be running off the lan, so the router would just support internet traffic, downloading, and the possible user that connects to outside game server.

My current router (netgear FVS328) seemed to choke up a few times at our last lan. I had 20 users on lan, setup at a hotel on a t1 1.5/768, that when not playing were surfing, connecting to teamspeak servers, downloading files and playing other games on wan servers.

I wonder how my netgear FVS328 compares the Cisco 831 or 837?? That might give me a better understanding.

Thanks....

How's your WAN traffic characteristics?

aryoba posted : It all depends on your WAN traffic characteristics. Are those users only browsing and downloading? Are they also uploading alot?

Anyway by seeing your condition, the 831 should be more than enough for you.
