With "common sense".
One who uses that will look at your silly list and realize that the vast majority of those items are for non-infringuing uses. I would be surprised if 10% of P2P were for non-infringing uses. -- Stephen J. Friedl * Security Consultant * Tustin, California USA * my web site |

Well I'm the first to agree that MPAA/RIAA have been completely boneheaded about addressing this issue, but I'm not sure anybody can make the case that their property is not being expropriated on a simply massive scale. If I were in their position, I'd probably cop a 'tude too.

My opinion is that: 1. The RIAA "price fixed" themselves in to this problem. 2. The RIAA did not change with the "computer revolution". 3. The RIAA treats its customers like criminals.
People follow human nature: 1. If people "feel" (real or not) that they are being ripped off by a product that they desire - There will be a reaction. 2. Computers and the internet have been around for a long while, but the RIAA has chosen to fight the new media. 3. Suing customers and wrecking their computers only brings dis-trust by the people the RIAA is suppose to be selling to.
Coping one music song is a federal felony with 5-7 years and $250,000 fine per each occurrence
Going into Wal-Mart and stealing a full music disk with lyrics, case and artwork will get a state misdemeanor with less than 1 year in jail and a $250 fine.
The RIAA is using an out modded business scheme, and they are using there monopoly powers to protect it.
The fix: 1. Start producing good music. Not that garbage stuff with only one good song out of 12. 2. Price music at 50 cents a song with out copy restrictions. People want to take music with them and not have do buy one copy for the car, one for the I-pod when jogging, and one for work. 3. Trust your consumers, they (generally) will do the right thing IF they don't think they are getting take. |

 | Most artists don't even own the rights to there own music so the RIAA is not protecting most artists but the money men that own the rights to the songs and own the RIAA. So the bottom line is MONEY and not copy right laws! And Some layers really don't care if thy are right or wrong as long as thy get paid! -- Targets many - Friends few. |
