Re: How to recover from a dead 5100/5200 modem. On the begining it goes well just after Load.... i think it's really screw up..... |

 | reply to buggage I need some info in creating since I'm overseas and can't buy the circuit and to have it shipped
I need the schematic for the using MAX232 and wants to know how I change the 5Volts to 3volts like like to one which the link posted that can get a 3 volt
Thanks |

 Serial connection using Maxim's MAX3232 |
An alternative circuit diagram to achieve a serial connection using Maxim's MAX3232, just for the archive of the forum.
Also I confirm that the same procedure applies to 5400 SOHO DSl Routers. But, it's possible (probably depends on router's part No) to make it operate only as a simple bridge/modem, after applying... |

 | just used this
Worked Great i cant believe my modem works again |

 1 edit | reply to del_ahmettt i can use MAX232N to this circuit?? and recover a speedstream 5200 e270 modens??? i´m noob... thx |

2 edits | kapeton, probably you won't have any problem using it. The only main difference, for the use we want the IC's, is the higher scale of power supply (5V), instead of 3.3~5 V mine. But it isn't a problem, as the other guys have successfully used IC's at this voltage. The circuit diagram stays the same. |

2 edits | reply to buggage Ïh dear friend, it seems you have done everything well, but unfortunately you may be faced with the issue I wrote above said by del_ahmettt: ... But, it's possible (probably depends on router's part No) to make it operate only as a simple bridge/modem, after applying...
Look at the line, that refers to
NVRAM: 003-3015-INT, SBC Bridge NV'G':59611 ,it proves that.
I was in the same trouble, some months ago with my SS5400! ;) See that thread »How to recover from a dead 5100/5200 modem.. I believe that your machine works perfectly as a brigde/modem. Õïu have to reflash it to work as modem/router, not simply a bridge/modem.
But I have no idea about how exactly you can do it. I was lucky to have some help from buggage, (oh thanks my friend, everything works ok so far :) ) that send me a file suitable for my model.
Probably, more experienced members can help you.
(Note: I think , we should keep this "How To" clean from additional posts, so we can jump to the referring thread above) said by kapeton: and my english is very poor :P
And mine I think, too! |

|
 | Have to aggree with Doctor Olds on this. Make sure you check the connection very carefully. I don't believe the chip or board will be damaged, but something isn't wired properly. When I built my first connection, I was receiving pretty much the same thing - bunch of random characters. Finally tracked the problem down to something not wired up right. Took a while to figure it out, but once I fixed the issue, everything was working fine. You appear to be almost there, so just double check your work, and I think you'll be successfull. |

Hi...
Thanks for the answers.
Well, first they forgive me for my bad English...
I annexed some photos of my project.
I used the project of del_ahmettt for the MAX3232 (16 pins), but I used the MAX232N (16 pins too).
Still it did not works.
Already I checked everything! What it can be wrong?
It will be that the MAX232N is not appropriate for this? |

1 edit | Are you sure your serial communication parameters are OK? (115,200Bps, 8Bits, No parity, 1 stop, and No flow control)
These "no meaning" characters can appear when bps speed isn't set properly. I can't think something else from those said above |

 | reply to buggage OH YEAH!!! My modem is alive!
I found my error... It was in the circuit. Instead of connecting pin 4 to pin 5 with a capacitor, I connected (with a capacitor) pin 4 to pin 6!!!! Serious deceit...
After making a power suply stabilized in 5V (because of MAX232), I verified everything again and then I perceived the committed deceit.
After this, everything ok.
P.S.: I used 5V to repair my modem using MAX232N. I don't know if it would function with 3,3V.
