Re: Tri-state area, FIOS, Cablevision

Long Island includes Nassau + Suffolk. Long Island as a whole has much higher wealth than rest of the nation. I should know, I grew up in Nassau county. However lets breakdown Long Island and you have 2 counties. So do you compare to another area with a 2 county basis or what? How do we compare "Long Island" to another area since it is just an area with 2 counties, Nassau and Suffolk. Do you take two counties in CT and add them up or NJ? I bet you can find 2 counties added up in CT or NJ that is wealthier than Long Island. But hey they may not be next to each other.

Comparing like this is rediculous. Lets move on.

I do not believe Long Island is the wealthiest. Conneticut and New Jersey and Westchester are up there in the North east area as well as New York City.

Verizon has been running fiber here in White Plains and just today in West Harrison (East White Plains...Silver Lake) I saw them stringing it on the poles. One of the field techs that I spoke to real quick said the hub serving the West Harrison area should be done next week. It's funny that area is getting it so quick since it took so long for DSL. Can't wait till White Plains goes live.

I was just thinking. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Verizon started installing Fios in Bethpage? Heh, I could see it now, Fios lines criss-crossing Cablevision HQ.

Only image nicer than that (outside of them doing such a thing here in Woodbridge, NJ) is doing it over in Philly by Comcast HQ.

I keep seeing Verizon vans around here. Think they are installing FTTP? :P Probably just installing new lines or disconnecting them or maintaning them.

I see markings on the ground a marking for NYT1, T/V, Gas lines, Sewer lines, water lines and the like.

I see alot of E1 and E3 markings as well on the ground.

This is Forest Hills, NY. I followed the NYT1 markings and it seems to run parallel to the Verizon manholes and is also marked near pay phones and the like.

T/V area appears to be dug into the road and repatched and I could have sworn that was not like that before recently however I did not see any trucks doing work. I could just be mistaken and that I didnt notice it before though.

I would assume T/V = Cable TV which would be Time warner? I know RCN is for RCN. NYT1 has got to stand for NY Telephone because it is not water or gas or sewer.

Im gonna guess on a limb here and say that FTTP will be deployed in this area. I take it however if it was to be deployed I would see those FTTP big boxes on the sidewalks since they can not put those underground right? Or for multiresidential is it done a little differently where the EQ would be colocated in the individual buildings instead?
