kbjones join:2001-12-24 Los Angeles, CA | [Vonage] Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter with Vonage I see lots of talk about the new Linksys router with Vonage but what does everyone have to say about the new Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter with Vonage?
I can't find any thing on it on Linksys site. |
|
 | Appears to be just the adapter. Not much info provided by Staples, however only $9.94 (plus sales tax).
Or $50.00 off the RT31P2 which combines the adapter and router in one box.

It's a rebranded SPA-2000 Other than a different case and probably being locked to Vonage, there probably isn't much to say. -- The views expressed herein are not necessarily those of anyone else, including the poster. |

With the rebate, looks less expensive than the moto box and has a 1-yr warranty vs the moto box 30-days. Goes behind a router. Says it's ready to go without configuration changes, but for configuration changes says you use the telephone interface instead of accessing it with Internet Explorer. |

Re: [Vonage] Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter with Vonage Am I missing something here with this new TA? Why would anyone purchase this adapter over receiving the Moto adapter free of charge? I'm sure there's not that much difference.

Why do you think it's a SPA-2000? |

Re: [Vonage] Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter with Vonage These integrated solutions are a boon for the average person but for anyone with more than two VOIP lines or service from more than two VOIP companies these things aren't a solution at all. They need to implement QoS properly in both the router and the VOIP analog adapters; that would be a much better solution. |

I agree. I like having single purpose boxes, wired together in a way that suits my requirements. Others may feel differently, though. |

I wonder if that means the configuration info in the PAP2 will be enough to reveal to Sipura 2000 users a way to configure their units to work with Vonage?
I have a Sipura and would be interested in the ability to configure one of the two lines of the Sipura for Vonage--in case I ever have difficulty with my Motorola ATA. I'm in Brazil and getting a replacement for a fried Motorola would be a major, lengthy hassle.
As it now stands my backup plan is to forward my Vonage number to a Free World Dialup DID, which rings on the Sipura. |

 | PAP2 and RT31P2 are UN-LOCKED Don't forget the catch - you MUST sign up with Vonage for 90 days to get the rebate from the Staples offer - with either Linksys product.
Remember, "... there ain't no free lunch"
Both products are unlocked and must be configured to connect with Vonage. Linksys Customer dis-Service isn't any help. They told me it was locked... however, the Technical Support via email states:
"The RT31P2 (router) is not locked to Vonage so it is also configurable for other VOIP SIP."
Looking through the Users Manual reveals the same information for both the PAP2 and the RT31P2.
So for $60.00 you can get a Sipura 2000...
Regarding setup for Vonage with the original Sipura... read the Linksys manual on their website... it might be enlightening.

When you receive the Moto directly from Vonage there is a shipping charge and an activation fee. This is not so when you buy the Moto adapter from Circuit City or Best Buy and I presume this is not so when you buy the new Linksys adapter from Staples. |

hollan join:2004-08-17 Monroe, WA | There is, however, a deactivation charge if you purchase the Moto ATA retail, sign up, and cancel without returning the unit. I believe this applies even if you do not take advantage of the rebates that are floating around (typically $50 after 90 days of continuous service within the first 120 after purchasing the unit), though I haven't checked the TOS with a fine-toothed comb.
Personally, I think if you do not exercise the rebate, you should not have to return the unit for credit at cancellation, but get the credit if you do. As it stands, this only happens if you purchase the unit and do not activate service (though then, obviously, you can't return it). IOW, it shouldn't cost you more to keep the unit, purchased retail, if you try the service and decide to not return the unit, as opposed to never activating the service.
Yes, Vonage is entitled to activation and deactivation fees, but I find the latter too closely tied to equipment return, and the rebates too closely tied to activation, and this not disclosed until after the unit is purchased. I have no problem with what their trying to do here -- subsidise the unit if one sticks with the sercvice for some minimal time, but the manner in which they are doing it strikes me as confusing and somewhat deceitful. |
|
 | I just got a linksys PAP2 at staples with the rebate. The rebate form doesn't even mention activation of service. Interesting uh?
Secondly, they are lost at staples cause I asked about the product, activation fees, deactivation fees, etc and they said... "this is a what? V-o-I-P? (he spelled it) what's that?" So don't look for them for help...
Tell you more once I get it working tonight.. *crosses fingers* |

This is not what Vonage customer service has told me. I have called and spoken to several reps and got the same response from all of them. They do not charge a cancellation fee on retail purchases, they said that I would need to go back to the retailer to determine if any cancellation charges would apply. |

Checked out the manual. It's not much help. What's really needed is the info used in the detailed Sipura configuration--servers, Nat settings, dial plans, etc. I'm curious to know whether the PAP2 allows access to those pages, hence the info.
Judging from this thread, it doesn't look like it.

Re: [Vonage] Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter with Vonage I'm not trying to spread a bad rumor or anything but does anyone remember issues with the sipuras being too close to the router?
I don't have a sipura and my recollection is probably wrong. |
