Fair Oaks, CA | Abysmal Speeds About a month ago I signed up with Omsoft for the 1.5/256k static plan. Things were activated on time, but the performance was pretty terrible. Uploads were about right at 20KB/sec but downloads were also only about 20KB/sec when I would expect closer to 150KB/sec.
I called in and complained and sure enough, a few days later, downloads were faster, but uploads were slower than mud (about 3KB/sec).
Last night in an effort to fix things, I flashed my Westel Wirespeed 36R516-01 modem to the latest firmware. The download speed went back to 20k/sec and the upload speed to 20K/sec. The VPI/VCI settings on this modem are currently set at VPI: 8, VCI: 35.
Are there better VPI/VCI settings that I should be using? Is my line currently limited by ASI? I've called my ISP quite a few times and seem to be getting nowhere. |
