why dont they do these kind of trials in NYC? i mean look how many people live here. it will help you test it much quicker, plus they wont have to put fiber trails in other redneck places that dont need fiber.

ny can already get ool .. they need to work on getting it out here somewhere, or more specifically to me. Comeon verizon, you wont even have to wire everywhere, just run it straight to me.

Yeah you have underground conduits and stuff to buildings in NYC but what about once the fiber is in the building, They would have to do all kinds of stuff to get fiber to the customers room and probably use as much fiber inside the building getting it to the customer than outside.

NY is majorily served by Time Warner and Cablevision - NYC in particular; Time Warner(Road Runner) is the major provider - they run Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and West of Brooklyn - The rest of Brooklyn and the Bronx are served by Cablevision(OOL).

Once again, Verizon snubs their noses at those of us without DSL. They can supply the few with godly speeds via FTTP, with a significant capital investment, but can't even get lowly 768/128 DSL to my house. :P :P

Those are nice speeds though...

Why NYC? Why not San Francisco or LA? SF is more high tech than NYC anyways.

NYC has plenty of fiber trunked. Heck even in Queens, we have Con Edison Communications manholes, RCN, and Verizon with fiber trunked. I dont know if the others have fiber here or not. I was looking at the road and there appears to be road that was dug up recently with NYT1 marking. NYT = NY Telephone. So I believe Fiber is already trunked here and was pretty recently since the road looks like it was patched up for NYT (NY Telephone) The Con Edison Communications manhole isnt too far from me either and we have RCN which stinks and hopefully is bought up by a REAL provider.

With Verizon comitted to FIOS, it raises the bar for the other carriers who will have to have fiber to the premises to compete. Time Warner will probably have to convert over (I havent seen any work yet done to upgrade their cablelines in the ground), RCN is fiber to 900 feet but service is horrible and hopefully someone good will buy up the infrastructure, Verizon is going to do FIOS in Queens Im sure even to multitenant apartments. And maybe various telcos and/or ISPs will merge and create another backbone. There will be at least 4 competitors for broadband in NYC (RCN, Verizon, Time Warner and probably a combination of merged telcos/isps or some combination thereof and Con Edison.) I dont think Con Edisons use of Ambient broadband over powerline will work well and I would avoid it and go to Verizon FIOS instead. You dont send RF down powerline and expect to get quality broadband.

How much does the service cost, and this PROVES that FTTH will work. Fast speed, and no problems so how much did the install cost? and what is the fastest speed you gotten?

Tom, are you able to access the Verizon news server??? That might just be the one place you'll be able to get the full 15Mbps. Download Grabit »www.shemes.com/index.php?p=download and connect to the news server and start 8 download threads and take a screen shot of how fast it goes.

I'm sure everyone else wants to know what type of speed you get from the news server so please do us this one favor.
