Re: [Vonage] Vonage work with Tivo?

I have 4 Dtivos 3 are series 2 all working with Vonage. Had to use the 2 codes to slow it down but it works 100% of the time now.

pcwiz,

Are yours Series 1 or Series 2 DirecTivos? What model #s?

Also, can you post your dialing prefix that has proven most successful?

Just get a DVR from the cable company, its only 5 buck a month, half that of Tivos and you dont have to mess with phone lines.

DirecTivo service is just $5.00 a month, which covers all units under one roof. Furthermore, it's vastly superior in terms of features and quality when compared to the primitive PVRs that are typically provided by cable operators. If you're used to a dual-tuner DirecTivo unit, cable service is a BIG step backwards.

Once a series II DirecTivo has been setup once (over a phone line) it can be operated without a phone connection. Eventually it will start nagging you to connect a phone line, but it will continue to function as the program schedule information is obtained via satellite.

The DVR in front of me now, Scientific Atlanta 8000HD is a dual tuner, high definition. In fact im watching a recorded HD movie as I type. That dosent seem to much a step backwards to me... Dident cost me a penny to get, have a problem with it.... take it back and they give me another one. Pretty good deal I feel where as you have to purchase your Tivos plus give them a monthly fee and if you have problems, tough luck, its your hardware....

Yep, I purchased my TiVo's with a lifetime subscription. Relatively big initial investment. But it's been well worth it. I have since upgraded my HD's a few times. I even keep an old drive for a backup should one fail. I've added a NIC to it so I can bypass the modem and use the home network to get updates. I can connect to my TiVo from work to set it to record and or delete shows. I have an FTP server on my TiVo. I have a Web server on it. I have also set it up to overlay information on the screen so I can quickly do things like check weather and such while still watching TV. My uptime on my TiVo is much greater than the uptime for my cable connection (310+ days on the TiVo).

I've had HDTV since it first came out in 1998 but have not yet upgraded to a HD capable PVR. When I do it will be a TiVo.

I have to tinker with one of my TiVo's just to see if I can get it to work with Vonage but right now I really don't have a need since it uses the NIC.

I've seen one in action, and I'll say it again: in terms of PVR capabilities, it's a huge step back from a DirecTivo. It's an HD digital cable box with a very rudimentary PVR. Lots of people are unhappy with them, and they're not getting many favorable reviews from the folks in the AVR forums, particularly from those who have switched from Tivo or ReplayTV products.

Obviously high-def is nice, but in that regard the old apples/oranges rule comes into play.

In any case, the original question is regarding getting DirecTV and Tivo to work with Vonage, so "switch to cable" is hardly an appropriate response. If you were having trouble with your Mercedes, would "Just buy a Lexus!" be a welcome or germane answer? I'm glad you're happy with your cable, but it's hardly relevant.
