Are you sure ? He could be Gone with the Wind.

Or maybe Ash1ey will be working on a new uninstall program to help users of his fake spyware removal program remove the "undetectable spyware" that he's considered putting on their PCs:

While appalling but not surprising, this seems to be the fastest rising scam on the internet as spyware has become the biggest threat on the Net over the past year. As in the days following the Civil War here in the USA, one is reminded of the Carpetbaggers who arrived in droves with fancy schemes for their own financial gain at the misery and expense of the desperate downtrodden.

I have to wonder how CNet can maintain any type integrity sponsoring this type of fly-by-night product, now bordering criminal, based upon the threats of the author to create undetectable spyware to infect victims whom he hopes will buy his software to remove it. Do they not test or have some sort of evaluations to filter their clients? Shame on CNet as well. I will certainly advise people I know from using CNet, ZDNet or download.com if this is the sort of product they will sponsor. An obvious Carpetbagger with criminal intention of infecting victims for the purpose of scamming them for dollars to clean their PC. This is outrageous! Hopefully, the credit card companies will put Privacy Tools 2004 and any affiliates on a large up-front escrow requirement to cover those chargebacks.

Oh, wow! And I wonder how the Windows MarketPlace views this affilation

quote:
By submitting your free or trial software to Upload.com, you are becoming part of the largest and most active library for digital content distribution.

Through our partnership with Microsoft Windows Marketplace, your Windows-compatible software products will now appear in the Windows Marketplace as well.

Register now for the opportunity to reach millions of potential customers with your downloadable software.
»upload.com.com/3910-21-5.html?pa···l.footer

Obviously their evaluation processes for new software is lacking somewhat:

»upload.com.com/1200-21-892663.ht···g=subnav
quote:
Submission Requirements

The Service fees are processing fees and only entitle you to have your product evaluated by CNET Networks. Submitting a product or product update to the Service does not guarantee that we will include it in our CNET Downloads library or place it on CNET Download.com. We will not issue you a refund for Service fees if we reject your product during the evaluation process or at any time thereafter. For this reason, it is important that you become familiar with the Software Submission Requirements that we have developed to assist publishers during the submission process.
And,
quote:
Your Conduct on the Service

If we discover that you have manipulated the data or statistics for a certain product, we reserve the right to remove the product from the CNET Downloads library and from CNET Download.com.
I wonder if that includes Ashley's clear admission that he will pay $$ for positive reviews of his product on Download.com?

This doesn't help the reputation of Clickbank either, not that it is that great but I wonder if they are aware of these recent public revelations by the author of Privacy Tools 2004.

I am not surprised that such internet scams are popping up, what I am surprised at is how easy it is to get your product sponsored alongside legitimate products with little or no authentication for it's validity.

I thank TeMerc See Profile for bringing this development to our attention and as always to our most highly respected eburger68 See Profile for his analysis and time taken to investigate these new scam products and provide the resource folks can refer to:

Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites
»www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_ant···ware.htm

And, thanks also to Suzi (aka suzi See Profile) for her tireless efforts to expose these creeps and get the word out to the unsuspecting. I'm already a proud member of Spyware Warrior since 2003. I think I need to spend more time helping them out over there!

I should feel discouraged as a spyware fighter I suppose, but, surprisingly, I am not. I'm feeling encouraged to continue the fight and am pleased to see the small but collectively effective army we have all become across numerous forums. Hopefully it all makes a difference in the end

This thread just got my vote

Yes! A very dim view.

This title is no longer available!

The program you've requested, "Privacy Tools 2004", is not available for download at this time. You might try searching for this title at a later date, or use the search box to look for a similar program now.

OMG
That thread was even better (worse? ) than the ridiculous attempt at explaining away crap-ware than the Stopsign threads here many moons ago.

I'm still laughing with at poor "Ash1ey" HAHAHAHA!
