 | DSLi Down. Anyone else? I noticed my connection was down and the amber light on the modem kept flashing. I went out to dinner and left it alone for a couple of hours. I come back and I still cannot get a connection.
I just called DSLi about it and all they could tell me is that BellSouth has an outage. I inquired about what kind of outage and they said they didn't know and to keep power cycling the modem every 20 minutes.
Anybody else down? I understand that there can be issues every once in a while, but I wish that the techs were a bit less vague and a whole lot more informative.
Anyway, if somebody else is in the Kendall area and is also seeing these issues, I would appreciate it.
For what is worth, it isn't a physical line issue as I am typing this from a modem connection. -- See where my mind is: »www.porcel.net |

Not knowing anything more, it sounds like the DSLAM you are on is out. |

Yeah, it was clerly a WAN issue. The amber light is called "line." Anyway, it's back up now. Let's hope it is stays that way.
I am reasonably happy with DSLi. It's just pleasant to get real answers when you call. BTW, has anybody tried DSLi's VOiP package? And can one get DSL service from DSLi without having to keep a voice line with Bellsouth?
By the way, thanks graysonf for your prompt responses and always offering some words of wisdom. I think I recalled that you run Linux or one of the BSDs at home. If you are ever interesting in giving a talk at Mialug.org, let me know. It would be an honor to have you. -- See where my mind is: »www.porcel.net |

graysonfPremium,MVM join:1999-07-16 Fort Lauderdale, FL | Probably loss of sync for some reason - DSLAM related, happens once in a while, never widespread, and doesn't impact the POTS line so your analog dialup modem continues to work.
I think their VOIP stuff is aimed at people who chew up a lot of pricey long distance service, and if you have a Bellsouth provided ADSL line shared line, you have to keep the POTS service. I think DSLi can provide, in some areas at least, a dry copper loop for DSL, so you could drop your POTS service with that.
Yes, I used to run a Linux server here, but I had to give up my DSLi service at the end of June and am back on cheapo dialup for the time being. |
