Second Update: Well, actually there is still a delay. It is kind of irksome but I will stick with the service for now.

I am a newbie..so, please pardon me if this is a stupid question. Can I use the packet8 home VOIP adapter with Asterisk to create a small PBX env for virtual office.
If this possible at all.

Re: [Packet8] Tell my why not to get Vitual Office

P8Support,

Thank you for all your support & info. I connected P8 VO and it is working great so far. Here & there there are little echos during conversation, but I didn't optimize my router forward ports yet, and my DSL fluctuates, so I am not going to worry about it yet.

What I want you to relay to P8 VO team is to get faxing onboard ASAP. I wanted to port my old fax # to P8 VO, but tech.support told me that your system will not support it.
It wouldn't even be going through P8 VO system. I only needed you to get my # from my old provided. I would then setup always forward (when the call comes in) to our FaxWave server in area code 775. So I just needed for the call to ring and for P8 VO to forward all calls automatically to another #.

He told me that P8 doesn't support faxing in business accounts (but it supports it in Residential, which doesn't make sense to me - business needs faxing more). He says that it is because residential used g711 codec (and is able to support fax), but VO uses g729 and will not. That makes sense, but what doesn't make sense is that call would just ring & forward. But he says your system will be letting the call pass through & all the data will be stripped (since VO doesn't support fax) so no fax transmission would ever reach my Faxwave #.

It is a shame that your system can't just receive a ring & forward the call (without interrupting it). I wanted to be able to port all my old office #s from Verizon to P8 VO.

Now I have to go out and try to port my old Fax# to someone else. (I don't even need any features, just fax support, ring & forward all calls to server).

It would be much better to do it with only one company.

This is something that should be on the list of features for business system, so that customers do not have to go out and get separate fax lines with someone else.

BTW, I am telling you this, since tech.support rep. told me to give this suggestion, so that you can pass it on.

Thanks for your help & support.

I use 4 Verizon lines with hunt & peck with Panasonic wireless telephone system. It has worked great for 2 yrs now. Can I order 4 VO lines and phones and have same hunt and peck if line #1 is busy it rolls over to line #2, etc? Can any phone pick up any call on any of the 4 lines???

PS: I agree with another user who said it is CRAZY for Packet 8 not to offer fax line service...if I drop Verizon and their rediculous monthly fees ($300 per month for 4 lines).

BTW has any professional users e.g.doctor or lawyer switched over to VO, and if so, what is reaction of their staff and clients/patients??

lastly, how do I protect myself while I try out the system for 30 days? If VO is a bummer, how easy is it and how quickly can I go back to my 4 Verizon analog lines???

I have exact same setup, cost & duration (just with AT&T phones).

P8 VO office works & sounds great. I tested it with DSL & Cable. If you have slow DSL (mine sometimes drops for no reason) then you will have breaking or echo. But if your connection is solid (like my cable or when DSL is at full speed) then it works great.

Excellent sound, instant ringing, instant voicemail, great phone, music on hold. Setting up Auto-Attendant - their automated AA & VM voice sounds very professional.

You can do everything you are planning with no problem. I have the same setup you want.

For the fax they told me that I would have to get their Residential line ($19.95) which will support fax. A little silly, but at least it can be with the same company.

I didn't disconnect my 4 lines yet. It will take them up to 6 weeks (max) to port my local tel #s, so I still have to keep my analog lines. In the mean time I am testing P8 VO

So far everything has been excellent. We use 3 VO extensions in 3 different NJ counties. It is working great.

This is the only way I can port my #s out of Verizon system, and move them to our new office location. Verizon can't do it. They would have me pay for forwarding calls @ 0.7c/min. No way I am joint to do it.

So far I am very happy with Packet8 Virtual Office.
