I'm not going to say "I have an answer", but I'll tell you the short story. I bought a WGR614 and it kept dropping WLAN connectivity (required a reboot of the WAP). I read the threads and figured I would chance the 5.0_02. Once flashed, my DNS lookups were SO TERRIBLE, I flashed back and starting making plans to pack it up and take it back. However, I read a thread talking about removing all connections prior to the flash - I've never heard of that actually having an impact, but I figured why not...I was taking the thing back anyway. I removed all the hard-line connects and turned off the wireless and re-did the flash - and now it's great! No drops, and no sluggishness...You be the judge for yourself, but for me it worked great!

By flashed, you mean before updating the firmware or what?

I am a moron and posted this in the wrong wgr614 post, duh. Geez the wgr 614's are really taking a dive. anyway here is my post:

Also having this problem. I have a wgr614 v3 and was using it with earthlink dsl. It would drop the connection almost everyday so I would unplug it and the plug it back in. Then one day nothing worked so I just took the netgear off the line and hooked the computer (mac g5) back to the dsl modem box and of course everything works again.

This was my husbands computer and I was using it to be wireless on my laptop. He was not happy with these daily drops so I have now ordered dsl extreme for my phone line and hoping my netgear will work better, but am not hopeful.

very frustrating.

Try to put this router away from DSL modem, which may help to get rid of this issue.

I had issues of droped WAN connection from time to time and slow internet connection when switching to netgear WGR614 v5. I called Netgear customer support and ping point the issue of my RCA cable modem which is known to generate too much interference and unfortunately, netgear is not immune to that (my old LinkSys router seems to works fine for two years.) I just pulled NetGear WGR614, two feet away from the Cable modem, everything works perfectly.

It did frustrate me, anyhow, it is worth to call their customer support, try different support people though if did not find good answer.

Overall, I am satisfied with Netgear router and it does has much better configuration UI than what LinkSys offered.

I had a problem with power cycling my netgear router about once a week until Comcast replaced my cable modem with a Motorola, now it's about 6 times a day. I don't think that Netgear likes the Motorola SB5100 Cable Modem. [Surfboard]

Problem is if I complain to comcast they state I should buy their equipment if I want to share my internet connection on my home network. (and pay more per month)

When I complain to Netgear they say, The need to Power Cycle the product is normal, and required in some instances.

I have had similar issues and responses from Linksys, which is why I purchased a netgear this last time. The netgear worked better with my previous modem than did the Linksys, then my ISP switched out my cable modem and the Netgear is having an issue with the new one. Maybe I'll try a DLINK?
