Re: Firefox

ctrip, while I agree with your support for Bush, I can't help but noticing your signature in which you link to a video and a n MP3 about negatives about Kerry. In a sense, one can view those links as ads too. What's the difference?

I could be wrong, but the way I look at it is, that one is a sig and the other is a site wide banner ad. A sig is something that all members are permitted (if not encouraged) to have. So to my way of thinking there is no breaking of the rules nor a breach of trust; Whereas with the site wide plastering of the Firefox ad, we are seeming to be subjected to the explicit thing that BBR promised us that we would not be, by signing up for a Premium account. In fact, it is the very 1st thing on their list of the benefits of becoming a Premium member. No banner advertising.

I understand your question, and I have seen a few Kerry avatars with sigs that link to "Dubya is an Idiot" type sites. While these sometimes aggravate me, I have never advocated them being stripped or censored because they are sigs. I have no implicit or explicit agreement with others about not seeing what their sigs say. And after visiting, I sometimes find the anti-Bush sites rather humorous.

If you look back at my some of my screenshots, you will probably notice that I use FF most of the time. It's not the message of the ads I disagree with, its the ads themselves.

And the plot thickens even more.

I can't believe anyone doesn't see anything wrong with this. Did BBR make a donation or take one?

If I am reading this right beside the other obvious problems here is that if we the posters in the various forums find a bug in Firefox and BBR reports it to this website there is monetary rewards involved?

How did you arrive at that conclusion from what you posted above? I didn't see anything about a rewards program. I did see a request for donations "to" firefox, though. Not unusual for freeware/shareware programs.

Or are you referring to the "bounty" offered for security bugs?

"The Mozilla Foundation has launched a Security Bug Bounty Program that pays $500 cash awards to people who identify critical security vulnerabilities. Please donate today."

It's on the link I posted. You just have to search a little. Any donations are matched for the bounty rewards.

Have any of you read the forums over at the affiliate site? I've changed my mind. This site has made a big mistake. There is a lot zealotry being expressed there...not everyone is agreeing but still...to have this site associated with zealots who think it is just fine to trick IE users and mess with their heads, etc. that is not befitting this site.

It is also very clear after you look at the affiliates buttons page that this is an AD and not an "endorsement" and thus does violate the agreement between the site and the purchaser of Premium status.

And what the heck is this? From the bbr affiliates page:

I tried to stay out of this thread but after doing a little non-biased searching I find things that don't add up as I posted in both of my " the plot thickens threads".

Here are the stats on this site:Users

Any site looking for a banner ad to get on a site would love to rope this site in. Apparently they did. Not to mention that BBR is now the 3rd most active site promoting the banner ad and promoting Firefox.

Look at the top 2 sites in my previous thread. Does BBR really want to be in this group?

G4techtv and overclockers club? Ack.

I copied the above from a prev post vs going back again. Is the number representative if the clicks off BBR to the site or downloads off the site once I came from BBR? if it's clicks, does it keep track of unique visitors?

I've already downloaded it twice since it needed to be reinstalled once already and that was the recommendation from the Firefox folks that were helping me. I've probably gone to the page 25 times already as part of discussing the threads here, helping others and my own downloads.

Take your medication, please. Firefox is a free product, how could they possibly pay anyone for anything considering is fully run by volunteers?

The 'affiliate credit' they mention is the silly counter.

This thread is going around in circles, I believe I have seen the same screenshots and posts about 30 times now.

Enough is enough. You're all welcome to hate the decision and the site administration has the right to make it.. so.. that's that.
