Re: FireFox icon..

I've been following this thread and the others like this one and would like to say something.

First off, I'm not thrilled to have the icon on the side of every page but it has nothing to do with product. I would probably feel the same way no matter what product it was. I would have no problem if it were on the Front Page only. I just don't like it being on every page.

The main point I would like to make is that this "icon" is such a small part of this site so why is everyone making it such a big thing? It doesn't take away from how good this site is or how helpful members are most of the time. It's not the first time nor will it be the last time that Justin makes changes that people get passionate about. We all get use to the changes after a while and go on.

In a sense, all these threads about it, are "Spreading the Word"

In my humble opinion,
sash

It's not an ad, it's an endorsement. You see all those sites with "build for IE" logos? Think of it that way.

Having the firefox logo and link to the firefox site is an advertisment in every shape and form of the definition of the word.

The site is Justin's to do with as he wishes, but at least be honest enough not to try bullshit folks with the "this is not an advertisement" crap.

It is.

Tacky and obvious.....I don't need anyone telling me what browser I *should* use, and I CERTAINLY don't need BBR shoving something I don't like or want down my throat. And an ad/link DEFINATELY won't sway me or change my mind. In fact, I wouldn't click on it just out of spite.

BBR should remain neutral.

It's not an advertisement in the sense that is normally used on the web.. ie:

1. we don't get paid for it.
2. It's not inviting people to purchase anything.

So if you still want to call it an ad, fine, call it an ad, call it your uncle for all I care, but for god's sake stop complaining about one small graphic on a page full of useful information.

Anyway, it's there, if we decide to go away, it will go away.
