Re: FireFox icon..

That is the security FORUM.. that's where links like that belong. this ad is on EVERY forum.. not really where it belongs.

You can call a car a submarine, but it is still a car. You can call a whale a cat, but it is still a whale.
You can call this firefox thing whatever you choose to, but it is still an ad.:)

It's just a little Icon on the side of the page, That nobody even has to click on if they don't want to. Why worry about it?

I really don't have any problem with it, but I see where the pros and cons are coming from. I tend to lean toward the cons. Just my view.:)

If I understand the premium ad-less concept, it says,

quote:
No banner/google advertising
The icon in question is neither of those two things! Nowhere does it say that premium memberships will be completely ad-free. So all those complaining about premium memberships being ad-free really don't have a complaint! No matter what you choose to call it.

Because its causing higher bandwith. Its going to TOTALLY throw me off of my 150 gig a month allocation:p.

I personally feel that it is out of place there, and is a general distraction. I agree with the others that stated that we need to be as vendor neutral as possible. Why should we stop there lets advertise endorse other things, I know most of the higher up here like Linux, lets toss some ads endorsements up for them. And instead of the petty little link down on the bottom for nac, nets give them a hug image in a prime spot. Why stop there, we all know how Justin's a staunch supporter of George W. Bush, lets toss an image and link up there for him.

Looks, feels, sounds like an ad, calling it an endorsement when other endorsements/ads are on front page and not on every single page scrolled through in dslr is splitting hairs. Comparing a site-wide ad to individual forums is like comparing apples and oranges (excuse the old expression). The fact that it only shows in an IE browser, is a definite cut to those still using IE and those that object to ads on their frequented pages (which I realize some don't object). My host file will cut most offenses and ads except the pages I frequent, which is dslr. There is an arguement/posting that says it's ridiculous to object to a little ad at the bottom of the page you're viewing. Maybe so, but I still object just like I object to most ads I view online which is why I started using Outlook to download my messages off of hotmail rather then have to view the ads there (I would also object to an IE ad). I understand that this is not my forum to decide these issues, however I have felt like it was due to everyone's fairness in regulating dslr. I think others feel like it also-hence the complaints when something is not to their liking and the suggestions for "improvements". Lots of people make this forum their home and go nowhere else. The final discussion may be like it or leave it. Well, I don't plan on leaving, I like my friends here and the community, but would appreciate any links sent for other interesting forums since I no longer feel "at home" as I once did . Most other forums I've searched have these ads also, but gotta see them in one, might as well see them in others.

What nobody seems to be saying is why it replaced the DI forum spot! I liked seeing the most viewed image and having a quick link to that forum.
