Re: Unlocking your Speedstream 5200 E242

Easy Dude !

I spoke to a level 2 tech today .. at sympatico ... lesson to that

frist when the modem is powered and well configured whit user name and password assind automatically a ppope blablabla....

okay so the easy thing yo do . is to make belive the modem that there is no avilabble connection

so what you do you make an error whit you b1 username .. like B1xxxx88 so the modem will make an error and will not connect . and not ACT like a ROOTER....

after the other part is to make your internet connection on your computer ....

CREATE A NEW BROADBAND whit your b1 name and password
make sure you have pppoe

Been trying to figure this out piece meal for a few weeks with little luck. There is something obvious that I'm missing in the instructions as set out in the original post.

>> Step 1: you have to make sure your IP is set to 192.168.2.2

and your gateway is 192.168.2.1

>> Step 2: Go to »192.168.2.1/pfwizardj.cgi?code=EDIT&id.. and set "All Items" under "Profile Configuration Access" click next and choose "Do not require admin login"

When it asks for a username and password, what is this for? Your Sympatico account or for admin, what goes there or does it even matter?

>> Step2: Go to »192.168.2.1/pfwizardj.cgi?code=EDIT&id.. and do the same thing, except type 192.168.2.2 as your "Constant Profile IP Address".

Same Question as above. What goes in the 'account info' box?

>> (if everything went ok, you should now see the new configuration page)

I'm not seeing the page, I do see Bell's crippled page, with three options and trying to access the pages listed in the orginal post gives me "Access permission is currently denied".

What am I missing? I have a E240, peice of cake on this model, my parents E242 however is giving me fits. The only resason for this is so that I can VNC into the box to fix what my dad breaks however this modem is making me feel like an MCSE (must call someone else).

Cheers and TIA.

Niall the humbled.

You are not following the directions as nothing goes in (as in leave blank) the username and password for the "Profile Configuration Access" which has nothing to do with logging into Sympatico.

When you follow the steps, it will look like this image.

Does anyone one know how to disable lcp protocol on the 5242 when you are using the firmware to connect. Because i don't see any options that can do that.
at The post »Frequent Disconnects, intermittent loss of sync
You will understand why it can cause problem with sympatico. ! Please can you read all the post and you will understand what is happening.
Thanks

You are confusing Dialup and DSL issues.

The link in your other post shows "These instructions are for Sympatico Dial-up Internet members only."

LCP is part of the PPPoE specification.

@qc.sympatico.ca

I called one of my freinds that work as a tech support in sympatico and they disable the lcp for High speed also. and since i did it i dont have anymore the problems that i used tohave ! i can access all the pages and no more lcp down because i am not using the firmware to connect. But i will be fun ton find an option if it exists in the firmware to disable the lcp. U can find more details on the post for the problem that lcp does :

LCP is a good thing.. no need to disable.

Hi, how do you set the IP TO 192.168.2.2 in the first place. I am trying to allow a speedstream 5200 to permit me to host an apache server on my home pc

Anyone have any luck forwarding a port to serve an FTP?

I've got my torrents forwarding working perfectly, but can't get it working for an FTP...it will only work using the internal 192.168.2.x ip, not using the ACTUAL IP.

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not, like if i need ssl or need it disabled or whatever.

Any replies are appreciated!

You cannot test the Public IP while you are on the LAN for any of the 3 servers that are also part of the unit itself. That means HTTP, Telnet, and FTP.

»Efficient Networks Forum FAQ »I'm trying to run a Server and I get the Router page instead of my Server?

Have a friend try it.

Alright, I tried my best, but can't figure this out. I still get the access denied info.

However, this might be the problem: the bottom of my router says O60-D242-A36, not E242. Does anyone know what the deal is with this? The label says it's a speedstream 4200, but my control panel page says it's a 5200. sheesh.

the problem I'm having is that all my torrents aren't green, and the modem is, every 3 hours or so, resetting and messing up my downloads/connections by giving me a new IP each time. Is this a typical symptom? I'd like to set up my computer as an FTP for transferring work between my office and home, and this static IP thing definitely won't do... can anyone help?

You are in the wrong thread if your unit does not say "Model 5200" 060-E242-xxx on the bottom label.

yeah, the question is, what model is it if the hardware says 4200 and the software says 5200?? even if the 4200 doesn't apply, it's not even an e242.

first you dont have a static ip and second you need to forward the port or use it in briged mode with the xp pppoe client/rassppoe or a router if any of those options are available on that thing

Post a screen shot of the Web Interface.

Here is what a 4100 Web Interface looks like.

This is very simple, If it does not have E242 on the label, the info in this thread doesn't apply and you should start a new thread asking for help as you have a different model.

"004-D240" is a 4200 Series.
