Re: Unlocking your Speedstream 5200 E242 said by Liberty_MI:To clarify, I basically want to use my WIFI router as a firewall, do all my settings from there.. Then why are you using PPPoE on the modem? Just connect your 5200 to the WAN port on the router, set it up for PPPoE, enter your user/pass and the router will maintain the connection, and you will then manage the ports & firewall thru your router, the 5200 will run in bridge mode. -- }·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´ |

 | Erm, mostly because I dont understand how to do that exactly.
So you are saying, click the {BRIDGE} mode, then go into my Dlink624 and got to WAN settings. Put in my Username and Password? What do I put in for the other settings? |

 | I must have a different firmware, mine has a MAC address setting |

KringleDr.DPremium join:2004-02-27 Pierrefonds, QC kudos:3 | Try setting up PPPoE and not Dynamic IP. Choose the PPPoE radio button in the upper section of the configuration page. Once you select PPPoE, the page will change to look like the one I posted. |

 | Ok, this does not work. Let me clarify what I am doing
log into the 5200, click MODE, click BRIDGE to go to bridge mode. modem now is unacessable, will not ping, nothing.. ethernet goes out of the modem to the wan port on my router.
I go to WAN, click PPOE, put in my username, and passsword, the rest is 0
There are many more options with the new firmware that arent in the above picture, set to DYNAMIC PPOE
put in Sympatico as service name ip address is 0.0.0.0 Mac address is there I dont know what it is I havent touched it Primary and secondary DNS is 0.0.0.0 idle time 5 mins mtu 1492 Connect mode radio button set to ALWAYS ON.
Reboot..
and nothing happens no internet connection, cannot ping 192.168.2.1 or anything on the web. |

You only enter your Username and Password. |

 | Thanks guys, Defaulted the modem and router and tried again, worked like a charm.. Thanks! |

 | reply to fier So I have followed the steps and unlocked my speedstream, that's cool.
What I really want to do is use Dynamic DNS though, what I can't figure out is what DDNS service the modem is compatible with. Any suggestions?
Thanks, rossman |

 | reply to fier OMG THANK YOU FREDEK!
I've spent months scouring the web for a solution, but of could not find anything that dealt with my specific problem, which was with the Sympatico modem. But your step-by-step solution not only was crystal clear, but right on the money.
You've made me a truly happy man!
Thanks again! |

Ok, ive done what you (cigar007) said about first changing the ip address in the properties menu, thats fine i get to the yellow/orange page and all. its missing the advanced menu but thats ok there are the links on the first page. thats dandy too.
now when i try and set it back to automatic ip...it just says no connection or low connection, it just wont go back to normal, ive had to restore the computer twice now ( whoever came up with that option is a genius!!) but i just cant figure out whats wrong with it.
-i set the ip to 2 -shut of the dmz -when i tried to revert to auto ip, the modem goes whack, and i have that 242 one jus got it loike 2 days ago help?????? |

 | reply to fier I unlocked my modem thanks to this cool site, but now i seem to get an error message whenever i try to get a torrent...other d/l's seem nice and quick i forwarded ports 6881-6999 and have no router or anything...can anyone give me some advice? Thanks |
|
fier join:2004-09-30 Mississauga 1 edit | Why are you forwarding so many ports? All you have to forward depends on how many things you download at once. Bittorrent starts from the lowest port, which would be 6881 and keeps adding a one to each download, so 6882 being the next one. Also, are you forwarding these port's to the right internal ip ? (that being the one you're trying these torrents from)
You should also check if you have the XP firewall up, or any other ones that may be blocking these ports. So either disable any additional firewall's you may have, or add definitions to allow these ports to go through.
Hope this helps.
*EDIT* forgot to mention that you're supposed to forward TCP port's not UDP. |

 | I was basically just trying to follow some advice, but anyway things are working excellent now...thanks Fredek--btw, i hope people appreciate how much advice yer giving out, i've seen you help a lot of people |

1 edit | reply to RobinK I was trying to Enable UPnP from
»192.168.2.1/upnpcfg.html - upnp Configuration
the default is "disable", I want to enable UPnP because BT Bitcomet need UPnP to get faster speed. so I enable "Enable full Internet Gateway Device (IGD) support". is it the right one to enable? I don't really know what is "Enable Discovery and Advertisement only (SSDP)".
anyways, the 5200 reboot itself and after waiting 15 mins to get back online, the UPnP function in the 5200 is still disable. I tried to enable it four to five times but no success... What should I do? Did I do something wrong?
Edit: How can I setup the 5200 to be a Modem? This is a Router right? cus If it is a modem, i don't need to enable the UPnP from this 5200... am i right? |
