My wife was using a company called scottrade for a few weeks to trade two accounts, let us call them, à la Dr Seuss, account a and account b. One one computer, she can pull up account a, and there is a streaming quote thing in a java applet. She can pull up account b, and initiate the same applet, and it works, but it shuts off the one from account a. Since it was too cold to go out, and too wet to play ball, I tried to figure out why this should be so. The tech support at the discount broker told me that one can only run one java streaming ticker on on computer at one time. It appears to be so, as I cannot load both accounts with streaming tickers in either windows or linux. It has nothing to do with ip address, as I can load thing a and b if I use two computers behind NAT, so he appears to be correct. Now, why is this so? Obviously, I cannot give out account numbers and client passwords to test this at DSLR - Is this a java issue, or just lousy programming at scottrade.com? Or, as usual, am I missing some vital bit of info? Please accept my sincere apologies for the inappropriate use of the forum, but my curiosity got the better of me. (For the record, they have a c+ programme that is unbelievably good, local, and one can run as many instances as the pc will support - but the idea of a network(internet) programme that can do even half as much just seems so cool to a non-geek like me....also, one cannot run it in linux, which means my pride is hurt...)
Thanks for reading this.
All good wishes,
