It seems to have migrated here from Slashdot and how it got to Slashdot, I'm not certain exactly.
If fact, there once was a Userfriendly (www.userfriendly.org) that illustrated how some people sat waiting for a new news posting in order to be first to post a comment. Truth be told, I've met people who had done this and brag about it. Let's just say they aren't exactly "normal", if there is such a thing.

Re: First Post BS Well, you see ... Once apon a time slashdot was cool. And then slashdot got infested with n00bs and trolls and B1FF types. When these morons took over, stuff like the first post thing was part of what they did. So now, while slashdot is no longer cool (the fora at least), it still a reputation of cool, so newbies think acting like that is cool. And of course the B1FFs and trolls that ruined slashdot are looking for virgin web to rape. |
