Re: Freeware instead of warez? if a site doesn't collect personal info then why the need to register in the first place in order to download freeware? |

I don't think most freeware authors like for anyone to charge for access to their files and it may be against certain programs EULA that no charge can be made to distribute their freeware.
But I don't know for sure since you would have to read each EULA for each program and you would have to pay up $$ first to gain access to the files. |

again this is just a "tip"/trick...if you want to use nod32 or try it on other apps....technicly nothing illegal, just more time for free trial usage...right??? Wrong. Sorry, but that is going to make your install illegal after 30 days per their EULA that you did agree to be bound to when installing. You are bypassing/tricking the installer to get around the 30 Day trial terms. Doesn't matter how you do it. The same would be true since it is the end result that matters, making it the same as running a crack or manually altering the registry to change the install date. |

Have a look at the OpenWatcom C/C++/Fortran compilers!
What is Open Watcom? Open Watcom is an effort to take the commercial Sybase Watcom compilers, and turn them into an Open Source Project. When Sybase realised that the Watcom C/C++ and Fortran compilers were no longer commercially viable, they searched around to find a solution for their existing customers. SciTech Software, a long time user of Watcom compiler products contacted Sybase about turning the compilers into an Open Source project, and hence the Open Watcom Project was born. |

The free Cygwin Unix environment is great for people who want Unix utilities on their PC, but don't want to install Linux. You get GCC the C compiler, C++ compiler, Perl, Python, etc. Very good for computer engineering students.

Depending on what you install the download can be huge(500MB+) . You don't have to do it all at once though. The setup.exe program allows you to add more stuff as you see fit.

Is there a free alternative to the SystemWorks/TuneUP Utilities suites?? I think I will dump SW as I am preparing to dump all norton products to streamline my systems. (They fly after install but bog down once I get SW's installed. )
I'll take seperate apps if I have to (I can always create an installer for them if need be) but would prefer if there is a suite available.
Thanks! -- -CK I am A man without a party... Like Street Racing?? Visit my site! SportCompactMiami.com |

darn should've known it was too good to be true,oh well at least some apps still work past 30 days when I reinstall them
but wait...letme guess? reinstalling something within the 30 day trial to get a extended 30 days is against some sort of rule too isn't it? bah crap.
and yes I'm the same guy who posted as FreeWareZ above |

2kmaroThinkPremium,ExMod 1 BC join:2000-07-11 ColossalCave | Some people will always try to get something for nothing even when it isn't free for as long as they can.
Let's just call time-limited use EULA's a test of moral fiber. Some pass the test, some fail.
In many cases, time-limited software leaves a small trace of itself on a system that is just darned hard to find, and flat won't permit that second "extended trial" installation. Others will allow you to continue to use it so long as you care to put up with the nag screens and any operational limitations you are willing to put up with.
For example, Goldwave - an excellent audio file editor, won't time out, but does limit the number of operations you can perform during a single session of using it. The limitation is so high that most people won't hit it - I never did while using the trial version. But I found the program so useful that rather than just use the trial copy forever, I bought the license. Same for WinZip (been licensed since v6.3, and I think they're up to 9.x now and no charge for updating) ... and SecondCopy 2000, and several others I could name. Shoot, I'm such a sucker that I often chip in for 'donate-ware' if it's a good application, such as some of the stuff put out by JavaCool. -- Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment.
