AT&T VPN Client Authentication Failure -Error240

I am trying to use AT&T network client with a wired connection with fixed IP address. It failed after authentication phase 3 with "!Error 240 VPN server failed authentication for unknown". Anyone has an idea what goes wrong? I really need to get this to work!!! And it's supposed to be straight forward in this case.

Thanks.

have heard solutions from other forums, but none seems to work. am from India, and use Airtel' GRPS. it was working, and all of a sudden it stopped. one of my networking experts here says there could have been a configuration change at ISP' end - like stopping IPSEC traffic,.. Pls let me also know when you get a solution, or some pointer (my ISP is not very cooperative in this case, and thus am on my own) - Thanks - jojojthomas@hotmail.com

Re: AT&T VPN Client Authentication Failure -Error2

I have the same issue from behind Check Point. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This worked for me to fix the error:

Found this in another forum

Finaly fixed via :

Right mouse click on the client (away from the normal tabs)
Select - Show login properties
Select the preferences tab
UNCheck - Negotiate UDP encapsulation with VPN tunnel server for NAT ....
Save or Apply

Re: AT&T VPN Client Authentication Failure -Error240

Around the time you posted the above message, there was a major change in the AirTel GPRS network. It could be related to your problem too.

But, first, has your issue been solved? Please let me know.

The technical change was: (this part is quite techy - you may skip it)
My P2P application logged into the server but the connection drops soon after connecting. TCP-ReSeTs were sent terminating the connection. This happened when a >1488 byte packet was sent out from my connection resulting in an AirTel intermediate router sending ICMP: Packet needs to be fragmented AND soon after that, the Resets were sent causing the failed connection.

Solution for PPP:
Change the MTU for PPP connections from the Default (1500) to 1488 bytes.

»support.microsoft.com/de ··· s;826159

The above link explains how to do it. If you have any questions, please ask me further and I will try to help. I do not know whether AirTel has re-allowed 1500 byte packets but I am not taking any risks. Since the incident, I am using 1488 byte packets max.

Thankyou so much Azad. You seem to have hit the bull' eye for this problem. I am not in the project any longer, but I will try to use your suggestion and use the lower MTU value. Am away from Office, will let you know on 10th of this month. Thanks again. Jojo
