| comeon...... Whats up with all of you people saying that BPL is a bad idea. I think BPL is a very good idea to make the possibility of broadband to everyone. Currently i used satellite internet and im excited about the idea of BPL. Maybe with BPL i'll be able to play games that i've played with dialup, and games i wasn't able to play. The technology is a need technology to provide high speed to everyone who wants it. People have coped with the technologys that we have today, so we can cope with BPL. -- »techvis.hyperboards.comDW6000,Re···.25ghz,3 computer wireless LAN | |
| | | Let me count the ways... •BPL trials have demonstrated that it generates unacceptable levels of interference to the current licensed users of the HF spectrum, interference that the operators have been unable to mitigate. Those current users include public safety, aviation, military, and, yes, the amateur radio community. •BPL is very vulnerable to ingress interference, where licensed transmitters will disrupt the digital signals of BPL. •BPL's economics are questionable. If it's not economic to provide DSL or cable service, BPL will likely not be economic either.

No offence, but that is the most retarded thing I have ever seen written down. Ok, so let's cope with DDt's, PCB's, acid rain, global warming, carbon monoxide. Right.
I work in the real telco industry, setting up entire CO's and ISP's. I would certainly enjoy it if people would at least understand what they are talking about before they say anything
HAM OPERATORS: Bravo! Keep up the roughousing. BPL is the lamest thing I have ever seen come to fruition. And to those who say HAMs don't know what they are talking about, know this: Telco techies repect HAMs a great deal, they know their Sh%t, know the theory, know the practice, and are pretty damn respectful of the telco and wireless industries. BPL lobbists have bullied the FCC; nothing more.

| | | | | Re: comeon...... MoonPuppy. You live in a false world. The man who is telling you about PR and money politics is only trying to help you to see the world as it is.
You respond by calling him a fascist and imply that the "is tin foil and black helicopter person".
Money will win over what is right every time. Look at the WMD claim in Iraq. Oil acquisition, money, overrode the reality that there are no WMD in Iraq.
By the way. Did you know that Apache helicopters are painted black? Why does it take a "conspiracy theorist" to believe in black helicopters? All you have to do is turn on the TV and look at footage from Iraq to see a black helicopter flying around. | |

First off, the PR is false and misleading. Second, you can't change the mind of someone who is blind. Most people are looking for the nirvana of fiber for $10 with 100MB mailboxes and server friendly TOS's. BPL won't do that and won't be deployed to 99% of the rural areas already crying for high speed access contrary to what is being said now by the providers.
If the world was bought this way then how did unions come about? Care to explain civil rights?

A fascist is a person who believes in complete control of the government no matter who it hurts. If he believes government can be bought and not held accountable, then that person believes in a totalitarian form of government. These same people believe also in conspiracy theories and that nothing can be done about them. I believe in neither.

You had to bring this argument in didn't you. Proves to me you know nothing about the situation and believe in total isolationism for this country.

So are Blackhawks, Hueys (officially known as Iriquios), Chinooks, Jolly Green Giants, Kiowas, etc. Your point? They are painted this way for certain tactical and operational missions.
BTW, Homeland Security is looking for you mr. anonymous.

If you want to believe that this (or any) faulty implementation will be YOUR nirvana, then you are not "coping" with it, but lusting for it. Generically speaking, lust is not a decision of sound judgment, but of emotions.
Simply because we utilize technologies, it does mean that we "cope" with them. It does not mean that ANY type of technology should be "coped" with. It does not mean that they should receive blanket endorsement or should be implemented. Your take on broadband by the METHOD of BPL is myopic at best.
No one here says that Broadband is a bad thing. Ham Radio operators and knowledgeable engineers from various communication fields are not PLOTTING against rural roll-out of Broadband or for enhanced competition. If folks would read the facts and the details, what is clearly being criticized is the METHOD of BPL. (PL = Power Lines!)
From a physics and design strategy, using the unshielded electric lines to provide Broadband is a VERY BAD idea. Let's understand why this BAD IDEA is being pushed and sold to the masses. It is simply because the electric companies want a piece of the Broadband pie and will try to sell an RF dirty and atmosphere polluting, globally failed technology in order to enrich themselves. Hams are not against corporate growth either, but given the faulty technology, promises and clear avoidance of the LAWS of physics, broadband should not be delivered over power lines.
Interestingly, cable TV sends its signals down the cables and into our homes using HAM RADIO allotted frequencies. Why the peaceful co-existence? It is because the cable TV system was designed from the ground up to be just that, so the cable used is well shielded and does not radiate interference. There is NO way that the power companies can modify their infrastructure to do the same.
So many folks wish for clean and efficient fiber optic networks. The electric companies could have strengthened their earnings by leasing/selling/renting their pole space for fiber optic lines.
