cahiattPremium join:2001-03-21 Smyrna, GA | [BritSys] Britsys dropping MCI? Anyone get the notice from Britsys advising they are dropping MCI and are offering a free switch to a Covad line? I checked their offer and although not bad, it seems you can still get a better rate through Cyberonic (or even others) for the 6000/678 even after paying startup costs. Come on Britsys, you can do better than that... |

atoms join:2000-12-16 Chicago, IL | A client of mine got the notice. It seemed kind of odd - like Britsys was having a hissyfit and inflicting the pain on their customers. Additionally odd was the failure to mention any kind of timeline or deadline for the switch.
If the allegations are true - less support hours and even worse, MCI outsourcing their tech support overseas, then I'm all for not sending MCI another dime, but still, what a PITA. |

cahiattPremium join:2001-03-21 Smyrna, GA | reply to cahiatt The vague information on the notice and the migration site bothered me also. Like you mentioned, they provided no notice with regard to a deadline, how long you could expect your service to remain if you decided not to switch and/or when you could expect the switch to take place. Only that you may see about four days downtime if you switched to the shared options.
Hey Britsys, be a little more specific and maybe you won't get hammered with so many calls and e-mails. Try dropping about $10 off also and maybe a majority of users won't go to Cyberonic instead.... $59 first six months/ $69 next six with $99 startup averages better than a straight $79 |

Not sure where you looked at the pricing but we are offering the following pricing to customers making the switch from MCI to Covad. This is not the same pricing as listed on our website for new customers.
This is for line-sharing business class service from Covad.
1500/384k $50 1500/768k $55 3000/384k $59 3000/768k $69 6000/768k $79
IP option (a) 1 IP address with NAT - Included IP option (b) 5 IP addresses routed - $6 per month Free Broadxent 8120 router to replace the cisco 678.
ADSL service will stay up through the end of October, a little longer for customers that selected the dedicated ADSL to replace the line-sharing service.
We are working with another ISP (MCI partner) to migrate a few accounts that prefer to stay on MCI or cannot qualify for Covad, it is an option but we dont have specifics on it yet.
You can switch to cyberonic, all you need is your DSLACI number which sales or support will be able to provide you.
I hope that clarifies it a little more
We know its a PITA, i know tech support and sales is very busy working to move customers but it is a positive long term move for our company and for our customers to work primarily with Covad.
We could not belive the positive reponse when we offered the Covad Dedicated line ADSL to replace the MCI shared-line for a few bucks more, we never knew so many people wanted to dump their voice line and switch to VOIP or just use their cell phone and upgrade to 3.0 or 6.0 download speeds.

Not that it's any of my business but it seems you guys should consider extending the drop dead date. I know it may cost you a few extra $ with MCI but may be a good investment in the PR column. A week and details that still need to be finalized, customers that will have to be notified and orders that will have to be processed = potential disaster (my $00.02).

Now I believe this is excellent service. There are not many companies that will advise you how to switch to a competitor. This is putting the customer before the bottom $ and I wished this was the common American spirit.

Dedicated will be in jeopardy when enough people switch. This puts the RBOC in the business of providing copper and no service (copper only). That won't last long. I believe the Bush administration should have done something when that DC judge took away the wholesale rates for copper. Then it was regulated.
The RBOC's can now sell their access to whom at whatever price. They are making sweet deals with the small guys while doing heavy negotiations with the big boys. This is the RBOC's way of using the smaller guys to put the screws to the big boys (AT&T, MCI & Sprint). Once those screws are in place, they will turn their guns.
What we need now is for someone to come up with a great access method into every home without the use of Bells copper. Cable just isn't enough competition and DSL over the power lines sounds shocking. I bet the cellular industry is investing heavily in city wide WI FI then this WHOLE DARN THING WILL GO BUCK WILD!
I know MCI is trying to use their Skytel network for just this purpose... |

I'm on the 18-month prepaid plan and I haven't been contacted re: any kind of switch. I'm not really interested in leaving MCI, but I'm not really interested in leaving BritSys, either. Am I to expect an email about migrating to another ISP or getting Covad at some point? |

If you did not receive an email it may be because your email address on file is incorrect.
We have been going through a list of email bounces calling customers to inform them of the changes we are making.
At this time we are still working with MCI to keep some of the lines as they are (Mainly lines that do not qualify for Covad) but the majority of customers are being moved to Covad.
If you are interested in the free switch to Covad where you will have the option of higher speeds please email sales@britsys.com.
If you wish to stay on the MCI plan, there may be a few hours downtime as we switch your circuit from MCI IP's to new IP's. I dont have any more info on this as yet and i cant guarantee that the downtime will be a few hours since MCI is not very fast at moving circuits over.

I read where Verizon is running fiber to the home in 9 states. Will you guys be leasing any of this new network? I hear VDSL has the same up/down speeds which sounds great to me. |

Britsys dropping your MCI SDSL? Please contact me if you also have MCI/WorldCom SDSL provided by BritSys and now are considering your options. Let's compare notes! |

I guess we will be at their mercy and no competition... |

I wonder how long they planned for it to take to recoup their investment. If it's short term, the price for VDSL will be sky high. Oh well, I live in Qwest region and they are too poor to invest... |

hunva join:2004-12-14 Centreville, VA | reply to Soapm I was very happy with my dsl service from MCI through BritSys. I had the service for over 15 month. One day my service stoped working and I called BritSys to report the problem. I was without service for more than a week. After sending serveral emails to BritSys, guess what happened? BritSys cancel my service. I was a victim of BritSys's relationship with MCI. I forgot to mention that I even had 18 month prepaid service. |
