Re: [Vonage] Linksys WRT54GP2 problems so far

Returned my WRT54GP2 to Best Buy and bought a WRT54G and PAP2 instead. Service has been working since Friday with no issues. I do get the audible hum on the line, but I am using the second line for a fax and the resistor dongle would not work for me. I did notice that when I was on the phone and using the fax at the same time, the audible hum disappeared. As soon as the fax finished and disconnected the hum returned. This would be my only complaint about the service at this point.

I tried 3 33k in series (100K) across the tip & ring
I get an off hook. !oo ohn is a short.
Do you mean 100K ohms, or 100 ohms? An off-hook phone is typically 150-200 ohms, so a 100K ohm impedance should be ignored by the circuit. If it's not, try another, higher resistance. But I'm surprised that 100K is too low.

Of course, if it's necessary for the device to actually BE off-hook for it to silence the noise (as opposed to just putting a load on the wires without actually changing the hook-status in the box) then any resistance high enough to not bring it off hook wouldn't silence the hiss.

I'd put a 1 M-ohm pot across the line 2 wires and try it out at various settings, or sweep it and see how the noise in line 1 reacts.

Re: Success - possible solution / workaround!!!

So what if I use two phones, with two lines and my Linksys RT31P2? Am I right in guessing that if only one line is in use I'll get the noise?

I have one line now, thinking of adding my other POTS line to Vonage, if I can solve the noise problem.

I heard from a tech that in about 2 months linksys will get them some routers without the noise. In the meantime I would say you should force vonage to give you a 2nd linksys for your 2nd line until they get the new hardware.

Re: [Vonage] Linksys WRT54GP2 problems so far

I just got my Linksys RT31P2 and noticed the line noise right away. Found this topic on the forum and tried the workaround...it works!

Other than keeping a phone off-hook in port 2, does anyone have some diagrams on how to make the dongle or can you just cross the wires?

Easiest is take a old phone cord and cut off one end leaving about 2 inches of wire, cross the two center wires, solder if you like. Then plug into the phone 2 port.

I had a R11 plug and crimper so I just looped a wire from pin 2 to pin 3.

My PAP2 and RT31P2 work great with this fix.

Any word from Linksys about a new unit with the noise problem corrected. Also does any one feel that $50 credit should also apply to current customers not just new ones for purchasing WRT54GPS. Seems unfair since i Just signed up in Nov. that I can't get rebate.

My setup as simple as can be:

Cablemodem -> RT31P2 -> PC

But I can't connect to outside FTP servers (the IP addy is resolved, but i get a 530 error).

PLEASE HELP!!!

Re: Success - possible solution / workaround!!!

I have 2 lines and have the hissing noise.
Will Vonage replace the unit I already bought or do I have to go through Linksys?

Re: [Vonage] Linksys WRT54GP2 problems so far

I had the RT31P2 router and I had a problem with latency called linksys linksys said it was defective I returned it to BB I then swapped it for the WRT54GP2 and had the same latency issues and then went to linksys's web site and they had a more in depth set up guide and followed it to the T and it worked perfectly no back ground noise issues or latency issues none of it.....try this set up....its a little different than what was in the box but it fixed all my troubles......»linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/lin···0cz0mcF9 wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3NjZl9sYW5nPTEmcF9wYWdlP TEmcF9zZWF yY2hfdGV4dD1oaWdoIGxhdGVuY3k*&p_li=&p_topview=1
