Re: BT slowdowns? said by Nitro Fixx:My guess is Shaw has implemented some sort of traffic shaping solution which provides policy-based Quality of Service (QoS) and directly addresses P2P by targeting common file sharing protocols, such as Audio Galaxy, Morpheus, I-MESH, Gnuetella, Bit Torrent, and Kazaa. When these protocols are detected, the software solution limits the bandwidth to a provider-defined cap. Maybe you're right, because the BT download speed wont change no matter which port is used. a Traffic Shaping product looks at ALL packets, no matter what port, right? | | xsmirage join:2004-10-16 West Vancouver, BC | This in my opinion is the most plausable explanation. Since Shaw thinks they want to use VoIP they will need a way to allocate bandwidth for that. If this really is the case, and Shaw keeps restricting BT Traffic / and P2P in general - I'm gone. I'll pay the $150 a month for 4MB DSL from Telus.
All I can say is they better not be doing this. I vote that we organize a petition, or a group of people in Vancouver @ Least and just go down to Shaw's Building - Protest, ask to meet with the manager or something. Invite some media along, create some pressure - MAKE them listen.
