Re: 106.7KDL Part II I listened to 106.7 some over the past year, I'd turn it on the outside speakers in the backyard when I was in the pool because it never had commercials. Sure, their playlist was short, maybe 30 songs at most, but it was unique music for the DFW market.
It's only in the past few months that they changed their format from European club-dance music to ghetto trash. Ghetto trash music has always been a failure in DFW because advertisers buying commercial spots know that a ghetto listening base will not buy their products. There are too many ghetto-rap stations in DFW that have fizzled out due to this. |

| which ones fizzled out?
97.9 the beat and k104fm are the only rap stations in the area since at least '95. Hell, 97.9 has only been here since ~2000. What other "ghetto trash music" stations are there? I hope you're not referring to KissFM and Hot100/Wild100. |

Off the top of my head, 94.1, 94.5(2 rap stations), 94.9(2 rap stations), 97.9, 100.3 JAMZ, 105.7 Da' Thunderstorm. To name a few.
Most of these stations have carried rap "urban" programming in various forms over the last 10 years. Now some are Jesus stations, muzak or talk radio. 94.9 has been the home to at least 1/2 dozen formats, starting with Y95 FM in 1989. All have been failures. Commercials just don't pull in money.
K104 is the only station that has stayed afloat, mostly because they appeal to an older audience.
In the 80's when Kidd Kraddick worked for 97.1 The Eagle, it was a station similar to what 106.1 KISS FM is today. They played crummy songs off the Top Gun Soundtrack for almost 6 month straight. |

 | reply to refidnasb Agreed with the majority of you. It took a ridiculous change for the worst. It was the ONLY station where you could hear some techno/trance around here. I have no idea why they changed, but here's one clue: that loser Dominoe.
He used to be on 106.1, the only hip-hop station that's been around for quite some time. First questioned his move over to here, but gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe the music would stay the same.
I'm confused on why they even made an idiotic move like this in the first place. Do they not realize how fast "Hot" 100.3 got shut down because nobody cared to have two stations playing the same crap? Rap is pretty well covered by 104.5 and 97.9... happy hip-hop and pop culture to 106.1... oldies take up a good deal and Jack FM (new 100.3) takes up decent rivalry with 102.9 MIX. 102.1 The Edge for Alternative. Come on.
Very sad to see it go... really need to unprogram it from my radio tuner in my car. Makes me mad every time I switch over. Was good while it lasted.
PS: The "Listener Feedback" section on their website is down. Wish I had a screenshot of one of their old playlists versus the one that's up now. Oh well, good to see I'm not alone. |
