I love it

I love that the providers advertise how you can download music and movies, but when people actually use their service for its advertised purpose they get throttled or cut off. And before some armchair lawyer comes in and yells about copyright, there is PLENTY of legal music and video content out there available via P2P from sites such as Etree and archive.org. I've downloaded and shared tens of gigs of Grateful Dead shows from bt.etree.org, and I wouldn't appreciate if I was throttled for using my Internet for its legal, intended purpose.

Re: I love it

yes but see when they say "download movies and music in a lot less time" they mean services like Itunes and a few of the online movie places, you know, the ones that require no real sharing. And, unfortunatly, i must agree with imrf. Live by their rules or get off. Its so shame 2! they said Canada is so kewl

I hear you.
My Bittorrent has not worked at all for the last month. For the past few months it has been very slow. I show that I am connected to peers, but nothing downloads or uploads. After several days of running an active torrent I might get a couple of MB transferred.

My cable ISP , WHTVcable.com (Yukon, Canada) claims that no changes have been made. However, subscribers using Northwestel DSL service have no problems with Bittorrent. WHTVcable buys their bandwith from Northwestel.

And to top it all off, I pay $65/month for 1024/256. Nice eh?

But the question is...would you appreciate it if you were throttled for violating your TOS?

I know what you're saying, but it's very annoying that people have this knee-jerk "love it or leave it" reaction to complaints about ISP-imposed restrictions on conduct. I'll answer your question by saying, I'd appreciate it if ISPs didn't use false advertising and cheap tricks to sell their service and cust costs.

One would expect the users that frequent this forum to be a bit more savvy than the regular AOL folks...PLEASE no email on AOL folks, Thanks!

I mean, reading and understanding the TOS shouldn't be a major problem, and they should be able to argue their point.

I am always fascinated by what I get by contacting and discussing my concerns with the people directly, in a calm, rational manner. I am in the industry...I am giving you all a hint right now...do you understand what I am saying to you?

Aside from the fact that it's a veiled insult, no, I don't understand what you're saying. Could you elaborate a little more?
