I would also be interested in how the servers got hit myself. Likely this will be a similar case to the situation where Windows servers had been used to spread previous malware by similar means; There wasn't really a 'worm' infecting the servers... it seemed it was just people targetting attacks based on a recently patched server vulnerability to install something (document footers) which targetted a recently patched CLIENT vulnerability... etc etc..
