Dslr - extremely slow

It has been a real pain to both read and post here for 7-10 days. The server is very slow to respond after (say) clicking on a link or using the backspace to go back a page, and when it finally does, after 30 seconds or so, it takes ages to load a page. This is with an adsl connection.

I do not have this problem with any other web site.

I haven't noticed any 'lagging' with response time from DSLR. It's been a 'grand-deluxe' for me.

Have you tried eliminating obvious features that could be holding back response time from your PC to DSLR and vice versa? Tried clearing your browser cache? Or perhaps testing a new browser to see if the same issue occurs?

Try doing a trace route, you may be routed theough a bad or overloaded router in your path

I've noticed DSLR being quite slow for the past three days...and I've run tracert and there doesn't seem to be any bad hops, getting between 60 and 100 ms, which is average range.

* Browser cache has been deleted
* DNS flushed quite a few times

it must be some kind of routing problem for some people because the servers are not choked at all they are serving pages as fast as ever.

Intermittantly slow here for me(Cogeco).

It is weird, maybe every 5th page loads really slow, some pages take more than one minute. Others load ok.

Ones with pictures, well go take a nap, it reminds me of dialup!

Also intermittantly slow from work, through a different isp(radiant.net).

I have done traceroutes, they never seem to show any problems.

I am more than willing to try to help to pinpoint the problem if anyone has any suggestions.

I just finished doing about 15 tracerts to dslreports.com

5 or 6 had asterisks inside nac.net
one inside nac.net had a 184ms response.
I have the tracerts saved if a mod/staffer thinks they might be of some use.

If the bad routing or other problem was inside nac.net you could squawk though right?

I am trying to figure out the significance of the asterisks in my traceroutes. (saved them)

If it was inside nac we would all see it -- but it appears only some members have the problem (I use comcast and have no issues).

Asterisks in a traceroute just means a router is not sending time exceeded messages or the ttl is too small. It doesn't really say anything about the status of the router.

I've done a trace to your IP from our main server. Your own router is the problem:

11 xx.home.cgocable.net (24.57.215.xx) 34.889 ms 33.620 ms 32.074 ms
12 xx.home.cgocable.net (24.57.215.xx) 3029.031 ms !H 3028.426 ms !H 3032.092 ms !H

See these two last hops? That looks like a buggy router..

I thought so.

That is why (but I wanted to confirm first) I thought it interesting that all of my asterisks were inside nac.net, not all on one router, but any router at nac.net that I passed through and even dslreports.com was subject to this.

If you look at the last hop on the trace I posted, that will explain the asterisks.. the ttl expired.

Thank you for checking and teaching.

I assumed that if a cogeco router was bad (or even my personal linksys) that it would show up on my traceroutes as high pings.

All the traces from my end have the cogeco end showing perfectly:

It may just be routing incoming packets odly and not outgoing.

The problem may also just be the traceroute itself if it's a bug in the router's kernel.

does cogeco impose an invisible proxy server on some of its subscribers? if so that would explain a lot.

if it is not an invisible proxy server... if slowdowns are noticeable with topics containing pictures then for sure it is a bandwidth slowdown not a server issue. And the bandwidth slowdown would have to be closer to you. Why don't you run a line quality test or a speed test (using the nac speed test server) and see if that reveals something. Trace route is not very useful in picking up these kinds of problems.

These tests seem to support my gut feeling that the slowdown is only happening for me at dslr.

Is there an alternate address I can use that is located somewhere else? eg, www2.dslreports.com

Please note: Cogeco speed test is limited due to the 10meg wan port on my spare router. (installed to test nil's idea about my router)

No invisible proxy.

If you determine it's something inside our network or something we can influence, lemmie know.

I've got no speed issues with BBR at all.

If you ping nac with packet size 1000 or more you should also see the loss problem.

I have been told how to run tracert. I could see it running and was makiing the hops quite quickly. The delay came at nac.net.
It does seem to be a variable delay, but any delay I see is at nac.net. If someone can tell me how to C&P the log, I will post it.
