sano join:2001-03-21 Crown Point, IN | Gas prices? Is anybody seeing a decrease anywhere yet? The Holliday weekend is over and prices are still 15 to 20 cents higher than pre-turkey day. I was told they would go back down after the weekend. I'm down in NW Indiana. |

Storm72 join:2003-07-03 Bourbonnais, IL | reply to sano Gas prices in the Kankakee area actually went down by about 10 cents just before Thanksgiving. They haven't changed since then.
The thing about gas prices here that frustrates me to no end is that they're often as much as 10 cents higher than in areas of southern Cook County I get to a few times a month. Considering that local taxes on gas in Cook County are far higher than in Kankakee County and that as far as I know reformulated gas isn't required here, I'm convinced that there's collusion going on among the gas stations here. |

 | reply to sano I am in Springfield and the prices went up by about 12 cents/gallon a couple of days before Thanksgiving, and also a little before Deer Season (the weekend before). It was $1.96 on Sunday until it has now dropped to $1.87 today. What is amazing is that its been $1.82 in Hillsboro, IL, which is 45 miles south of here, all along.

Don't forget that Illinois is one of the few states where the regular sales tax rate is applied to gas in addition to the motor fuel tax. In Schaumburg that means that the local sky-high sales tax rate is included in the price. If I'm not mistaken, Cook County also has a per gallon tax on gas that would be included in the price. On top of that, I wouldn't be surprised if Schaumburg also has a local gas tax. I also wouldn't be surprised if the prices are inflated since the area is a shopping/entertainment magnet. I only get to that area a few times a year, but I can never believe how high gas prices are there. |

We've usually got the highest prices outside of Chicago, being in Cook county, but I notice that many DuPage county stations are higher--some significantly so--lately.
Add to the sales tax discussion above the fact that Illinois imposes sales taxes the other taxes, which is rather typical for Illinois, I guess... -- Would yall like some more-a? Right here on the flora? An how bout you, fauna? Ywanna? |

I'll second that. I was paying about $1.90 near downtown Naperville until a few days ago. The stations on IL 59 north of Fox Valley Mall are now all around $1.78 again. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |
