Netgear → Quake III and RT314 Timeouts

Earlier I read about someones post with FTP and this router. I havent been able to run an ftp either so I went into the (21) setting, where you can change certain settings, I think the setting I changed was under »FTP and RT314 where you hit tab to change stuff. I forget exactly what I did but now I can't play quake 3 through the router, does anyone know what I have to change back? Please Help....

From these symptoms, it is impossible to tell what you did.
Why don't you just reload your saved last good configuration?

How would I do that? I've never had any problems with this router before and well never even had to configure anything.

This looks OK, are you sure you didn't change anything else?

Nothing in this screen should have any impact on Quake.

If all else fails, go to Netgear's site and download the 3.25 upgrade and use the browser interface to reload just the stock config file. Doing this will put you back to the factory stock settings. Don't forget that the password will also be reset to the factory default value 1234.

i don't think your problem is any changes you made to your router. i can't get connected to a quake3 server either. i haven't changed any of my filters in weeks.

every time i try and join a game id's update server is hitting me with an icmp pings. looks like they must have changed something some where.

Did you upgrade to that new point release 1.29g ?

no. i haven't changed a thing on my end. i was able to play yesterday, but not today. i did read that id's server was down sometime today.... they must have made some kind of change

I'm having the same problem. I was running QPR 1.27. When it didn't work today I upgraded to QPR 1.29g, to no avail. What the F@#* is going on?

Well I had a match tonite and I tried going just through the modem and it worked perfectly. I connected like usual. I just upgraded the firmware and reset the config file. WTF is going on? It just counts up and up and up every single time I try to connect through this router....

Has anyone tried by-passing the router?

i can not connect tonight either. no changes. even removed all my filters. awaiting response.....1....2....3...and on....

Hmm. I play Q3A all the time. As a matter of fact I just finished playing for about 2 hours with no problems.

I have 3.25 firmware and Q3A with the 1.27g point release.

alotero have you applied any filters to the 3.25 firmware?

for the record i have DrTCP's filters installed.

i also checked again and it seems it is id's auth server that is pinging me. so it looks like i'm am dropping those pings..... and not getting authorized

i think i'm going to shoot id an email and see if they changed something today when the server was down.

Well I guess a lot of people are having problems tonite and today. Hopefully Id fixes em up.

I too am unable to connect to any Quake 3 servers. I have two computers connected to the RT314 and neither will connect using any version of Quake 3 (1.17, 1.27h or the latest 1.29g) I noticed this problem after reading this forum and decided to try it myself. It was working a few hours prior to reading these posts however, so something has definitely changed but I have not changed a single thing on my end. And as I stated it doesn't appear to be with just the new 1.29g patch as no prior versions can connect either.

I bypassed the router and connected directly to the DSL modem and it worked. So, it appears to be an RT314 issue indeed.

I then contacted Netgear and before I could even finish explaining the problem he suggested Gearminder. I then mentioned that it was not disconnecting and that all other applications were working fine.

Placing the IP address of the computer in the default address slot has no effect as I am still unable to connect to any Quake 3 server. The router is using firmware 3.25 and there have never been any filter rules added or changed nor have any other changes been made. I have only had it about a month.

The Netgear tech who I spoke to escalated the issue to a level 2 tech and said to expect a reply within 48 hours.

Hi I've been having the same problems since yesterday.

I have a ZYXEL Pretige 314 (same router as netgear 314 pretty much)

I connected my comp directly to my ADSL modem and I was able to login to Q3 servers fine. I put the router back on and I can't!!

I also resetted the router and upgraded the firmware but still no luck. I thought it's my router but I think ID servers may have something to do with it. Please let me know if you have the answer to this problem. Thank you all

Seems we have an epdidimic , Idsoftware must have changed something i am having exactly the same issue. I have gone as far as having netgear sending me out a replacement router thinking the port fowarding option isnt functoning correctly. If anyone comes up with a fix post it please

Well just keep in touch, this is a strange problem.....

I have 1 filter that has 4 lines.

R1 drops all IGMP
R2 & R3 are the stateful ICMP filter of allyn's.
R4 drops UDP port 53.

That is is it. Other than that I am stock. I use RoadRunner cable ISP. I don't know if that matters. I have a defualt Quake 3 Arena install with 1.27g point release.

On top of that I am running Tiny Personal Firewall on all my machines too. I can connect to outside servers from all PCs in my house; at the same time even! Many times my wife and I both play in the same server. She on her PC and me on mine. I have no issues what so ever doing all this with my RT314.

I do have my PC's setup with static IP addresses and I have the routers address set as my gateway and DNS server. Don't know if that matters either but I thought I would through it out.

I have the same problem since yesterday. My router is ZyXEL Prestige 641 and if i'm not wrong ZyXEL and NetGear routers have the same operating system (ZyNOS software).
It may be a fault of this ZyNOS software, but ¿how is possible before yesterday all ran fine and today not? sure, Id software has something to say.

I have the same Problem in Germany with my RT314. And there are a lot of people with that problem.
I've nothing change, and tried it with ME and 2000 and 1.27 and 1.29f. Nothing.

Have you guys tried the bot enable thing?

In your server.cfg file and the following line:

seta bot_enable 0

This makes it so that you no longer require the CD to play. I think it also stops the server verification check too. That may be what is stopping you guys.

alot, can you post directions to setup your filters? I telnet'ed into my router and decided not to jack with settings randomly

same here I thought the new 1.29h patch was going to fix it =(.

Since it happend suddenly and to alot of people all over the world it seems to be an upgrade that has been done to the Quake software that breaks compatibility with the router in some way. Atleast thats how it looks to me.

I dont play Q3, but doesnt it use some sort of authentication system like Half-Life, you got to auth against another server?

Are you running the IP ANTI setting on your router, maybe the Authentication server is trying todo an IDENT check on your machine and your router is stealthed and it doesnt answer the query before the login to the Q3 server timesout?

Do you all have valid CD-Key as in you bought the orginal game?

Anybody checked Id softwares's site? Anybody tried to contact Id software?
