java2, Netscape 7.2 and Firefox

Lately, and probably before lately, I've had many problems w/ Netscape, and now trying firefox 1 as well, and running applets. Sometimes they work and other times they just stall the whole machine to almost the point of complete lockup (XP home w/ SP2). Now, since I do have a lot of baggage in the registry from old browsers and java versions I always assumed it was a registry issue. BUT I am now trying to deal with it in a different manner. I've shut off caching in the Java console and this seems to have stabilized the situation (for now, been down this road before). Anyone w/ problems w/ Java and the above browsers cares to shut the cache off in Java and report your results it would be appreciated.

Well, the cache solution isn't the answer. Netscape 7.2 chocked on an applet today bringing my browser to a non-responding condition again. Oh well. Least windows stays alive but it takes some time for it to start fully responding again.
