Not So re 16,000 feet

I am 9,600 feet and GTE (and earthlink) won't give me service.

I live 10,770 feet from the CO and have just been approved by GTE/Earthlink for DSL, so I don't know what is going on with your situation, maybe you need to be a bit more persistent!

i'm 16,500 and i was downloading at 800kbps. then i start doing 250 and they blame it on my distance. the tech came yesterday and checked my line. my max download is 1.3 megs. but that'll never happen because they keep switching the card to bronze. but if you're getting over 250 then you're probably not having the problem that the others have from the GTE CAN'T DELIVER post. because everyone there was running 250 because they had the regular bronze package. did you try tweaking your computer yet?

Have you considered that distance may not be the factor when it comes to you not getting DSL? It could be a digital carrier on your line (GTE will rarely remove them), 26 gauge wire which GTE will not run DSL on or any number of other variables that make DSL so much fun to deal with.

My brother is about 5,500 ft from the CO and he can't get GTE serveice either, but GTE stated that they tested his line and he has a problem with it. Probably inside the house, but he doesn't pay for the line maintenance. He would have to probably run a new line just for DSL.

There are a lot of possibilities as to why your line does not qualify. The most common is 26ga wire. if there is over 9k feet of it we can't offer service. If you have a bridge tap or load coils they have to be tracked down and removed. If you have a digital carrier on the line it won't qualify (those are there for a reason, not something we can readily remove), Your line harmonics could be too high or too low. Are you even sure your CO is set up for it? There are hundreds of possibilities that make your line specifically not capable of xDSL service. The only way to know for sure is to call and ask why you can't have service. We have several resources that will tell us exactly why you can not have service, and we will tell you the specific reason if you ask.
