Re: FWIW - IP Changes....

toolkit,

I could swear I answered this before - I swear, I swear! There are other Linky users with Ameritech ADSL that do not have problem, and I believe DrMorley shouted it from the ROOFTOPS in about twenty messages here (many were dupes), but I guess people have short memories and may need to re-read entire thread again.

Radio?? I need a new icon please??? I want one with a little guy preparing a flame gun? LOL. Hint, I said "preparing" (to replace warning/caution symbol). Then, for a !!DANGER!! symbol, maybe a part 2, where we get some action? - Flames been sprayed in icon? NO?? Ok, just a thought!

Disclaimer: That comment is not intended for any specific party, but these basic icons are not very good at indicating tone

OK, is that your answer? You still didn't really say it, but I guess you mean "no, I haven't tried removing the Linky". (I don't want to read too much into your post - I know how you hate when people think you say something you didn't ).

So I assume now that you have not tried taking the Linky out. I really think you should. You might be overlooking an easy fix. I know you have a bad line. I know other people have Linky's. But I still suggest you try it.

The fact that other people have Linky's and don't have your problem tells me absolutely nothing (really!). Unless you can guarantee that those people have everything else exactly the same as you, it doesn't really allow us to eliminate the Linky as a possible cause. For example, maybe they don't upload as much as you. Maybe they have a different firmware revision. Maybe they have some setting slightly different. Or maybe, just maybe, you have a faulty Linky with a cold soldier joint somewhere.

If you don't want to try the experiment, fine. It's got a low probability of success. But just remember, it is something you could try, and apparently haven't. If I were you, I would give it a try. The 30 minutes (maybe longer) that you will invest is way less than you've already invested trying other fixes (heck - you've probably spent more time than that on hold with Ameritech!).

That is my final answer, and I'll consider it.

You guys (specifically you and Tim) can feel free to help the newbies please, as I don't mind getting LESS attention , LOL

I do answer everyone, including you and Tim - Just sometimes people don't like the answers (I give) because they disagree with choices they would have made, so they sort of nit-pick, which can be very agitating...

Goodluck.

Dee, I understood your reply just fine. If you don't want to fix the problem NOW, then fine... But you may very well not even have ION until next year! Who knows, maybe ION will die out (I sure hope not...)... Dr. Morley said they are horrible with their CO deployment dates.. They've already delayed on you once! Bah, if you don't want to get it fixed now, you could have this problem for MONTHS until ION comes.. and even when it comes it they have long installation dates. And when they do come, if you still have problems, you'll probably have MORE trouble getting your line fixed! Geez, I don't see why you are so reluctant to troubleshooting and fixing problems. Oh well, ::sigh::

"Geez, I don't see why you are so reluctant to troubleshooting and fixing problems. Oh well, ::sigh::"

Reluctant???? Do you know how many different settings I've changed on the Linky???? [From suggestions here to suggestions in Linksys forum also!!] Do you know how many conversations I've had with EA??? Do you know how many
Serv-U client changes and software programs I've tried??? Excuse me? Does that sound reluctant????? Because I made a choice not to call Tier 1 until I have exhausted all software possibilities and consider it worth it, (which is apparently AGAINST your advice), I am now "reluctant to troubleshooting and fixing problems"??? PLEASE!!! SPARE ME!!!!

And the point to reviving this thread was for Dave to shed some new light on an old issue, not for you and toolkit to REHASH crap we have been over 100x!! You got my answer, didn't like it, so you keep asking it?? As if it will change now?

DO NOT tell me I have not tried because I didn't select YOUR option at first IP-Panty drop!! You have no friggin idea!!

Dee,

Please don't drag me into your shouting match with Timotheus. In my defense, early in this thread (and yes, I've read the whole thing), I suggested that you try temporarily removing the Linksys. Right when I suggested it, DSLKIA switched you to interleave, so you didn't try removing Linky (I guess, because at that time you didn't say).

Later, around page 3, I asked if you ever tried it. Your response that time was "toolkit, I will be trying RASPPPoE next." Then about 6 hours later, you wrote a response to toucansam that included the sentence "I got away from it being the router since there are TONS of people here with Linky/Ameritech combo, and in Linky forum, that have not reported a disconnect every 10-15 minutes during uploads." From that I assumed that you did not try removing the Linky (but wasn't sure, because you didn't actually say that).

By the way, all drmorley really said was that you had a bad line. I know that. You've had a bad line all along. But as far as I know you didn't have the IP changing problem until recently (coincidentally approximately the same time you upgraded your linky firmware, if I recall correctly).

Now today, when the thread was revived I asked again, thinking you might have overlooked the fact that your setup may not be exactly the same as those "TONS of people." Your response: You attack me for asking a question you feel you've already answered.

I'm sorry that I tried to help. Believe it or not, it actually doesn't bother me if your IP changes frequently - in fact, I don't really care if it changes every minute. So, I guess I'll leave you alone and enjoy my problem-free connection.

Yes, you got the answer to your question before (maybe not directly, but surely 100% indirectly from reading the posts - which you promptly repeated). Since then, I've responded directly since the indirect answers were not clear enough. My error , I will be more direct and BLUNT (in the future), something I enjoy myself, from others.

As for the problems being associated with the firmware upgrade, I highly doubt it. I believe I didn't notice it with 1.37 since I wasn't attempting to upload large files at that particular time - I was just "leeching" as they say, and minor stuff....

So, thanks for your persistent attempts to resolve this, but I know my options, and have set my priorities - Some of which you (& others) may or may not agree with, but no need to keep going over them again..... Enjoy your connection!

I am giving you a thumbs up for this post. So far it looks like the RASPPPOE is doing well against the Linksys. Maybe the Linksys will not go on EBAY, but so far the RASPPOE seems to be doing well.

Oh geeze, you had to revive this old thread?? LOL. Just couldn't comment to toolkit in NEW thread?? ....

FYI: The only reason I even chose to remove Linksys THIS TIME was because I "caught" the RED Diag light on Linksys during uploads earlier this week (it had never flashed or I never saw it flash before). According to Bill_Mi, a popular Linksys forum participant, that was a golden moment and a dead giveaway for the Linky (discussed in IM). It was then, that I decided to test the problem. Just, FYI.

Radio,

Can we have a padlock on this one? I think the "dead horse" has been beaten enough, and any further discussion is already being covered in new threads....

Toolkit had a great suggestion and dead on about the Linky. You can't say Toolkit's suggestion was way off. Bill was right also. Regardless of what else happens

If you are doing that much uploading why would you want ameritechs crap ass service in the first place? You should be looking for something with a higher upload speed. I sure would hate to download a 700mg file from someone with a 128/256 cap.

Nefar,

Did you stop to think (for ONE second), that I may not have any other choice? And I DO NOT...I am STUCK with Ameritech until ION or something else comes along. Don't you think it makes me sick to my stomach to go from my previous 784/784 (actual: 720/720), to 768/128 (actual 640/120)????

Files I sent in 2 hrs - now take 12!!!! So, next time, think before you make the ass-umption that I had other choices....

OK Folks... I didn't lock this one this morning because I didn't want everyone to lose credit for their posts in this long thread, but it's time to put this one down.

No more, or I will lock it, OK? I know Dee is done with it.
