What service pack are you on? None, 1 or 2. As for where you got it, did you go here www.java.com and click this button?

Did you have a choice between offline and online installations?

A lot of people have had problems with the online installer, me included. Took me about 3 days to figure out that was my problem. Now I make sure I always use the offline installer. I think there is a large problem with the way they download the files in the online installer... something gets corrupted or something. It just doesn't work right.

I'm glad that fixed it for you.

That's strange because I've never had a problem using the network installer. That's not to say that because I haven't then others wouldn't or shouldn't. But I wonder if might have something to do with the user's AV software configuration? I don't run background AV.

AV could be a culprit... but not in my case since I even tried the network install with the AV completely off.

There is a fix where you need to transfer a file to the Mozilla folder >> If I was at home I would post the link >> maybe do a search.

That is only an issue on mozilla browsers that weren't installed using an install program (ie they were simply unzipped and run). I don't think that has been an issue since Firefox .6, IIRC.
