anon : :( Hi I just installed version 10 previously had version 9-free version. I am stuck with the shellconhiddenwindow not responding when turning off pc, just as you were. I unchecked the mim.exe in the start up panel and the shellconwindow problem went away. My question now is, as soon as I open MMJB 10, the mimboot starts by itself and then I stuck with the same problem. How can I get around this? Should I re-check it each time before opening and then closing MMJB10? Is there a better way that anyone has figured out?
Thanks a bunch,
Shelley
Windows XP SP2.

anon : Re: mim.exe problems:
My Thanks to all within the forum who pointed me to the identification and solution of a problem which plagued my system over the past several months. I suspected the mim.exe application when my computer refused to shut down and the pop-up window “mim.exe shutting down” appeared. When I googled “mim.exe” I was guided to your forum.
You may be interested to know that my problems extended to my media (compact flash) card reader causing it to hang up and necessitate a manual shutdown. It also affected the Windows Device Manager (WDM). It would cause the WDM to hang up – also necessitating a manual shutdown. My son, a software engineer, suggested that it was possibly associated with MMJB’s portable device manager as found in MMJB version 10. Meerly deleting mim.exe or mimboot from your computer will not provide a permanent fix.
My solution to the problem was to uninstall MMJB 10 and revert to version 8.20.0131. (You can go back further if you wish.) Thankfully, you good folks provided me with the link to download the archives. This process required only 10-15 minutes. The only thing I had to struggle with was how to update to the “plus” version since I have a paid life time free upgrade promise. If you read all the screens carefully, they will direct you where to enter your registration key. If you have problems, contact support (best done through their “help” option) for detailed instructions. I would also suggest letting their support folks know of your disappointment with version 10.
All of my previous problems have now been solved! Yes, there are some shortcomings for those who wish to download music through MMJB and use their portable devices, but for me that loss is minimal compared to the headaches of version 10.

Pete
Duluth, MN

Musicmatch 10 - Too many bugs!

anon : I’ve used Musicmatch since version 8 and I found version 9 to be stable, although only 3 very ugly skins were available (incidentally, anyone know how to get hold of some other skins for version 9?). We are sorry for the inconvenience". The problem is that it'll finish playing the current on demand or radio song and then MMJB will fail to work after that. The only remedy I've found is whenever I sync up my Palm or plug in my jump drive, I first have to close MMJB, and then kill the mim proccess. After syncing or plugging in, I can launch MMJB again. What a pain in the arse. I read about why the mim is there but I neve use the library. Anyway, I'm going back to MMJB 8. I liked the skins better anyway.

howie : I just found another interesting (and slightly disturbing) thing that mim.exe does and that is that it won't allow you to format a drive while in XP. I have a third hdd (E) that I use exclusively for backup images and I normally format it in Windows when I decide to start fresh with a new full image. It seems that with mim.exe running, it "locks" additional physical drives and won't allow you to format them in Windows. If I try to format, I get the above image (top). If I end the mim.exe process, I can get right in and do the format (bottom pic). I did contact MM asking just what this process is and hopefully they'll get back to me.
--
"I could be wrong, now... but I don't think so! - Adrian Monk
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

With mim.exe running.

With mim.exe stopped.
