Let me say that you are wrong there, flat-out wrong. At least in my experience.

Well, except the fact that they are not, of course.
What's not? The cable company's networks are private. Nobody but them own the lines, they lease the space from the city.

"Go build your own" is a logical sentiment, except at this point it's like shoving a pencil necked Slashdot reader into a boxing ring with Tyson and saying: "go compete, champ."
LOL!

Man I really hate Slashdot.

I have to catch a plane in a little bit, but the stern remark is BS, howie the moron stern was fined way more money under the clinton days. Do a search on it. The left is about getting rid of free speech, castro a few months back executed journalist, france sued bridget bardot, and china just this week arrested several people who said the government sucks. stern needs to be taken off the air, his show is worthless unless your 10 to 20 and think a old has been talking about a strippers boobs is free speech.

Telephones were cheaper in the 70's, before deregulation.

and from your stand, anyone with a patent holds a monopoly and the government should force them to allow others to use that patent. A.G. Bell invented the phone, it by all means belongs to him and he can charge any amount he wants for it. His company was destroyed which is wrong, no matter how you twist it, the government has no right to interfere with a private company. Phones and internet is not a right, for a normal average person it has no bearing on life, you are not entitled to a phone. It is a private service.

You've really got to get out more and obtain a more aerial view of the world, instead of buying into this absolutist partisan boobery that's infected this nation.

I get out plenty, but thanks for your concern. You say "the world". If you step back from everything on this world and look at the politics it is very scary. Socialist system tend to have 2 classes, workers and administration, we here in the U.S. can look north and south and see what a failure the systems are. The north so far in debt the citizens are suffering physical pain due to a very lame health care plan. Mexico is a pure socialist disaster massive corruption has put mexico on the brink of pure anarchy. So excuse me if I rant about any and everything that I feel puts us on that path. In the last 100 years on this planet 100 million people have been killed for the cause of socialism. For the record I only voted republican this year, I am a libertarian, which fully explains my stance that government should not interfere in private business. I am all for legalizing drugs, I am not for the socialist system in place in the Netherlands where drugs are allowed but massive state funds are used for reeducation/rehab centers. Socialism in any form is bad, we can clearly see the effects all around us. Even here in this country a feel good program like welfare, it was supposed to help people get up, instead it is abused and is holding people down. I do think the new deal was a decent plan, but it was not a free handout, thanks to kennedy it was turned into the mess it is today. Deregulation of the telcos has not been shown to be good. For the most part socialist plans look great for a few years, then the flaws come to the surface. The push by the democrats for health care is a valid reason to say the dems hate the people. A socialized health care system will only increase pain and suffering, since we have other countrys that provided the proof that it will not work, why do they keep pushing us for it, they must hate us, what else could be the logical conclusion.

You're like a cliche machine, spitting out Anti-democratic anti-Kennedy rhetoric ingrained in you from somewhere very loud (dad, I'll guess). I'm curious, are you flesh and blood?

If so, Merry Christmas!

merry Christmas to everyone!!!

And my dad is a democrat, believe it or not, my views are based not what other people have told me, but what I believe from my own deductions. The great thing is when my beliefs are challenged, I have to rethink why I choose this path, hopefully I make a few people think for themselves and question why they think the way they do.

I am walking out the door to get on a plane, geez,a aluminum can going 300mph, now that is a dumb thing to do...
