If yes, they wouldn't buy the .INC shit.

 | Isn't the core tenet of competition that whoever provides the best service at the lowest price will generally be sucessful? Who cares if it's a semi-governmental agency or Bellsouth or Cox? I just want to download my donkey porn and gamble at the fastest possible speed for the lowest possible price. |

A muni is very much a government organization...nothing semi about it...unless you are disputing the right of a municipality to establish local governance. |

Exactly like how streets are government ran and the stuff in UPS trucks isn't.
He stated that pretty clear to me. |

I happen to know FOR A FACT that while some systems do outsource content, many do not. |

ppcpunk join:2001-02-11 Davenport, IA | Wow, so let me get this right your only reply is that you know for a fact some do not provide service but some do outsource it. And what exactly is your point? So what? Some provide it exclusively some let multiple companies offer it.... I fail to see how this is bad, or in your case so LOL'able. |

None of the muni's I've seen do. |

ppcpunk join:2001-02-11 Davenport, IA | I don't know how many you have seen but I don't think that matters - I think every case is probably unique and to say who should and who shouldn't be providing certain content such as cable tv without doing studies first is not going to get you the right solution for all/any cases.
I think most people would agree as a general rule setting up an ISP would be a bad idea when we already have so many that are willing to provide service as it is. But things like cable tv are different.

Those are just two off the top of my head.
Perhaps some communities want to provide cable tv - that's fairly common in some places since no companies want to build networks in those regions. But I think in this age you could easily setup a fast connection to the muni POP and have a private company do it. Just like they have on the Zipp network with two different companies providing cable tv service. |

That begs the question: WHY THE HELL SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT BUILD THEM A NETWORK WHEN THE INCUMBANTS BUILT AND MUST MAINTAIN THEIR OWN? We're back to square one on that one.
Ah, and why did you steal my avatar? |

ppcpunk join:2001-02-11 Davenport, IA 1 edit | Because the private companies don't want to invest in them part of the reason and who cares - then they don't get to charge whatever they want to - I can live with that. Then it is time for real competition.
Also I didn't steal your avatar - I had it before you did. |
