Re: My Anti-virus Program Comparison Analysis Also, You made some daring conclusions ("Detects more unknown viruses", "Doesn't protect well", "'problems' with scanning compressed files", etc). Can you please elaborate, support, or remove these remarks in the future versions? True. I still think some of my conclusions daring when I re-read them. I should use my wording carefully. But think twice, it may not be so, especially when I tune down my wording. In fact all my conclusions are drawn from the reports. So I am just like an agent which deliver what the reports says. The reports tell me their conclusions by data. I tell the readers by words. :P
Next time, I may include some brief explanation on my comments. (Eg: It doesn't scan compressed files well, eg: it gets 85% in XXX test). For the fact that it is a summary, so I won't explain in depth. It is because if one really wish to know all the details and explanation, why bother to read the summary only? It is the best for us to explore ourselves by scanning the detailed reports, isn't it?
What do you think?
In fact, I do think some solutions to substantially enchance the quality of my report. The solution is to make my own website. Then I can contain both the summary and the details in more clear tables, diagrams etc. People can also use the sorting engine to sort out their desired data only (eg you just wish to know 4 AV pograms, and focus on ITW viruses only). However it seems no one is interested in that. So I am going to abandon this project. -- If you think my post is awesome, please vote for me If it's thread (created by me) -> Simply click on "Topic functions : thumbs up, news-worthy". This seems like a good idea. After reading the last few posts and noting that there are professional or expert reviews of antivirus available, I suggest a thread be started titled something like "professional evaluations of antivirus products"
In this thread, links are provided to the evaluations and a brief statement of qualifications and affiliations of the referrer/recommender and the evaluators be part of the post. For instance, if the referrer/recommender is affiliated with ISAC, ISSC, SANS, a software vendor or other industry group, state that along with any certifications the referrer may have. That way the qualifications will be there for the user's evaluation and we will have what some are calling for in a handy topic of its own that could be a nice FAQ that few sites actually have.
It would also keep this thread focused on assisting Wai_Wai to put together his unofficial report to provide layperson level information as many do in BBR on other topics.

Re: My Anti-virus Program Comparison Analysis By the way, would anyone bother to help me to highlight my thread (if you think my thread is good)?
If so, what you need to do is to simply click on "Topic functions : thumbs up, news-worthy". There are choices inside which you can give me thumb-ups (if you like my thread), or highlight it (so others can notice my thread easily).
Thanks. -- If you think my post is awesome, please vote for me If it's thread (created by me) -> Simply click on "Topic functions : thumbs up, news-worthy". If it's reply -> click on the "thumb-up" icon under my reply. I enjoy seeing a lot thumb-ups around me! |

It seems a lot of readers are being messed up. Maybe I should imrove the layout of my report.

| Hello Wai_Wai ,
I hope you make the AV testing subjects a FAQ in »Security
If it is accepted, it will be with the other ones at the top of the forum page. Your work will also be easier to update and easier for users to find than putting in a new topic, which doesn't stay on the first pages here once activity on it is completed.
See »Site FAQ
for how to create.
I hope this suggestion is helpful, thank you for your efforts!

 | Do you know how to verify malware ? There is a lot of garbage malware which isn't be able to replicate. A lot of scanners detect these files as "infected" because it is not proper cleaned, but the virus is unable to execute. Such cases you can only verify with a disassembler like IDA Pro where you can see by yourself that virus code is never executed. For that you have to know x086 low level asm opcodes. Are you be able to research such things ? If not, stay far away from advising people which AV to pick.
