| What Java engine does Firefox 1.0 Preview use? Last night Norton AV detected a Trojan.ByteVerify in one of the class files downloaded by visiting a compromised site.

is infected with the Trojan.ByteVerify virus.

I'm running Windows XP with SP2 and until last night, I thought I had all the patches in place to prevent this kind of problem. Further more, I thought that the problem with MS's Java engine had long been fixed, so I'm intrigued as to 1) whether I really have a problem or not? 2) Was Firefox using the Sun Java or MS engine at the time?
I did a google search and the instructions I found were confusing. In the internet options, under Java, it only shows the Sun's Java 2 v1.4.2_05 as checked. There is no MS engine. Other instructions said to go into the Control Panel->Java-Plugin, Browser tab to learn which browsers were using the Sun Java as the default engine. There, I found 3 browsers: IE (checked), Netscape (unchecked) and Mozilla 1.1 (unchecked). So, does this mean that Sun Java's was NOT in used at the time of infection? I have tried unsuccessfully to check the Mozilla box but it gives me an error: "Please check that Mozilla is properly installed on the system and/or that you have sufficient permissions to change system settings."
How can I be sure which Jave engine is running with Firefox?

| So, if in the internet options, I don't have the MS java engine, then I should be OK as long as I had the updated Sun engine not vunerable to this attack.

If you don't have the Microsoft VM, and had a version of Sun Java, that wasn't effected then yes you should be ok. However I would still make sure you did a thorough virus scan of your system as a precaution.

According to the link below, the Mozilla site links to Sun Java version 5.0 update 1. Preferred or not? No idea but it's what I use. FYI.
