Re: My Anti-virus Program Comparison Analysis

The primary reason I chose KAV over McAfee was because KAV provides a daily automatic update (sometimes more frequent) while McAfee's only provided a weekly automatic update. Lots can happen during a week. Norton also did automatic updates only once a week.

I think it is time for me to inlcude more information relating to other aspects (eg update frequency, features, ease of use etc.). So people can really pick up a product by just reading this post (hopefully).

However the content are going to expand by 10 pages long. But readers bear to digest all of them? They are very heavy food to eat.

In fact, I find my summary report totally unacceptable. All the information are arranged too messily, and this thus confuses readers a lot. What a totally dead duck!

My Plan of Building a Website

I am planning to build a website in the near future. My wishlists are:
Aim and objective:
I would like to:
- help users to enhance their computer security
- help them to make their correct choices of security programs.
- It is sad to see people insistly on choosing a particular bad anti-virus without good reasons. The program don't really give what you want.
- To include my long research and report, I hope people don't need to risk making choices based on bad and partial magazine reviews, and unreliable information.

Target:
- anti-virus
- anti-torjan
- anti-keylogger
- anti-SPAM
- firewall
- anti-spyware

(Any more good suggestions can be made. And to save time, I don't test any very non-famous, rip-off, crappy programs at all.)
(If you wish to include more, please tell me.)

Content:
- basic knowledge about enhancing security by yourself (eg customize Windows etc.)
- links to a lot of resources to security-related programs and their reivews
- My comparison analysis reports on all security-related programs.
- fourms to discuss issues etc.

Content of my analysis report
I will further enrich their contents by including:
- the analysis of their protection capabilities (from the report)
- the results obtained from my own research and observation
- To give more-balanced impression, I will give both objective and subjective comments to each security programs (I will separate these comments and will not mixed them up! Don't be worried)
- I will also list both representative, and less representative information/facts representatively, instead of including the most representative ones

- and I will evaluate other aspects as well, including:
Ease of use
Autoupdating
Scan speed
Uninstalling
Stability
False alerts
On-demand Protection
On-access Protection
Scanning/detection in terms of:
- Email
- Web
- ActiveX, Java, Script
- Archive
- Extracting
- Boot Sector
Price and Subscritpion Charge
Online Database
Online Forum
Support
(Any more suggestion?)

Facilitating reading
To facilitate reading I will improve my reports by:
- Sorting facilities
Say if you wish to focus only on some programs only, there are a sorting system which you can select a few. The system will only display reports and comparison tables, and exclude others

- Aspects of reports
Some users may focus more on their stability. Some may focus on features etc. You can select the aspects which interest you most and make decisions based on the aspects you chose.

- Depth of reports
Some users may choose to read longer reports, some may just wish to know the conclusions only. So they can suit themselves by selecting the appropriate levels of reports.

- Type of reports
You may choose to include only detailed or brief, representative or less-representative, a-bit-outdated or updated reports which I gathered in the sea of the Internet. Some other criteria are available, including displaying specific (types of) websites.

- Auto-summary reports
It is hard to digest a lot of data and get the clue. One program may be good at one part, and bad at others. To give you the overall ideas, an auto-summary reports will be produce which will value each aspect of your choice and give you the overall score or trend.

you may also custom the weightings of different criteria. Eg: If you think one's program protection capabilities are very important, you may give higher weightings on this criterion, the rest will done by the system, and give you a better overall score/trend of your taste

- Visible charts, diagrams
Reading a lot of data is boring. Readers can produce different eye-candy charts, diagrams etc. by a few clicks of their choices.

That's roughly about my plan of my new website. This is a quite big project. I am not available to take up this big project so far. I have a lot of work to do. I would probably work on it during the summer. I should be get more free time throughout.

Finally I would like to say the above are just dreams at this stage. And there's no guarantee whether I can make it, or I will work on it. You know, the world is always changing. You can't predict what will happen before the coming of summer.

And if I wish to do so, I have to find some good and free website and forum hosting which can support the technology which I require. This could be a pain.

If you have any suggestion or comment regarding the above, feel free to leave messages here.

If you wish to help me with the project (even just for the trivial thing, eg giving comments/suggestions to my websites.), free free to leave your name and email address here. Bear in mind, you don't need to commit yourself. You can opt out at any time without any reason.
