 | just switch to a mac |

 | My mac has had no spyware EVER, not a single virus EVER, no pop-ups EVER, New security definitions are automatically updated by apple once a month. Apple wouldn't release such a poorly written OS and wait for 3rd party developers to find an out. Buying Giant out is just Microsoft's way of buying themselves a few more minutes before they royally screw up again and have to make up a patch or buy someone new out. It amazing how the mass public will accept what is given to them and be happy with mediocre components and software. If your not an Apple fan, use Linux, use Unix, hell use a Palm! Mr Gates will continue to make mistakes if you let him. Flame me all you want, in the end I will still be sitting here in front of my G4 not having to worry about any of this. |
|
 | I couldn't agree more! I sit here and happily do my thing on my iMac without any worry about virii, spyware, or trojans. My wife sits across the room banging her fists on the desk and slamming the mouse around while cursing windows and her malware infested pc. |

Dont get executables from places like Kazaa. When you are installing something, KNOW what you are installing. No need to overypay for obsolete hardware,... err I mean get a MAC to protect yourself, all you need is some common sense, and a couple of nights sitting in front of the PC, having a few pizza pockets reading up on some basic PC knowledge while sipping on some Mt. Dew (optional).
And like some people stated above, the current state that Antivirus Software is in, is total garbage. it is NOT normal when a VIRUS slows down your computer LESS than the Antivirus does.
I havent had an antivirus installed on any of my systems.. since ever, and never an issue. Yet my old folks'' PC has a whole bunch of crap installed to keep 'em safe, and I still have to format it like every other month since they manage to F it up.
Common sense, updated winbox, and NAT will go lightyears farther than a tonn of other garbage that you people have running on your PCs. |
|
 | Reading and research will only get you so far, I never had to read a single manual or book in order to make my mac safe, they work out of the box and will still work perfectly months later. Trojans and Virii can come from any source, not everything downloaded from Kazaa. Email, websites, even store bought applications can contain spyware and other malicious code. I really doubt that you, without any sort of virus and spyware protection on your peecee don't have a single keystroke logger or trojan somewhere on your system, not that you would know if you did. If you truly are without then you are one of the lucky few. Being well read is not a good excuse for learning to use a 'family computer' without running into crippling system problems. |
|
 | All the MAC user, don't feel soo bad about not having any virus' or trojan's, when you are a relatively small market, as far as users are concerned, no wonder no one has jumped onto this OS... As the user base increases be very afraid... |
|
 | Yes... macs are great! No spyware, no virii, no programs....
It seems that virii writers write for a platform that they actually use... |

I work in a computer repair shop and i fix computers 9/10 hours a day 5 days a week. Its not the computers fault that it gets trashed with stupid pop-ups and things like that. its the user. it has always been the user. and sad to say the user also invented windows.
The user is also the person crashing the system by writing viruses and codes to do their dirty work. if i really wanted to i could crash a mac, and if i need linux (if i understood the inner workings a lot better) there is always a loop hole to crash a system. Sometimes there are loop holes to loop holes.
but to all you people out there that just need a little bit of advice. Just have a antivirus (pc-cillin/Norton/McAfee) have a spyware program (ad-aware/spybot) and get a pop-up blocker (google-toolbar) and you should be good. for at least awhile ^_^ |

No programs? I honestly can't think of a single program out for the PC side that doesnt have a equal replacement on an Apple machine. Think about your arguments. I shouldnt need to buy extra software bundles to ensure that my brand new store bought computer will operate correctly for more than a week. It's like buying a car with a hole in the gas tank then paying Ford to repair the leak.... go spend the extra money if you want, defend it all you want, but if you want someone to listen make intelligent statements that can be backed up. |
