| cannot access uk chat room due to java error java: "Bad major version number" in browsers
I am a total novice to java and have tried everything to solve this
problemm
with no success...I wonder if you could help me?
After using netscape 4.7 (and explorer 5.1)
on an Apple Mac (os 8.6) computer
to access a uk chat site i have suddenly encountered
a problem which shows the error message
Applet MSChat can't start : error : java.lang.ClassFormatError: Bad
major version number
in both netscape and explorer.
I have not knowingly changed any settings
can you help?

i tired installing 2.2.6 also but same problem

London, OH | works for me on a PC with the 1.4.2_03 client from Sun. I'm not sure about Mac's, but where do you get your java clients from?

and netscapes internal java (as i say i
am fairly ignorant to java matters)
what i find strange is i have used this site
for years and now cannot access it on two
different Macs through either cableor modem
connections.
i have also searched extensively for any info
or other users with this problem and drawn a
blank?

I would see if you can update your netscape install as you have a very old version, then you might get a newer version of java that might work. It could be that they've updated things and the versions you get with that version of netscape can't handle it.

anywhere else?
would u mind entering the chatroom and
asking a Host for me if they know why?
as i cannot access it at all?

London, OH | Well I logged on, but couldn't find any hosts... and the people I did find were kinda rude. Anyway, I did find on there site a link for if you need help, it's at the top next to the google ads once you try to enter a room. Other than that i'm pretty mac stupid in these areas. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

If you enter a chat room, above where the java window would be and to the right of the google ads there will be a help link.
